Never ever.

I remember having fallen asleep on the futon in our basement the night before and being woken up by my girlfriend at the time telling me to turn on the TV because "planes are crashing all over the place".

The first tower had already been hit. Not long after that, I watched the second tower get hit on live television. I was glued to the T.V. for the entire day - I didn't go to class, didn't go to work, just watched.

I was so angry, I actually called the local military recruiting center, but nobody answered that day.

God bless America, indeed.

I just found out that the above picture was done by a 17 year old girl after the 9-11 attacks. For some reason I really like this drawing, I think it says alot about our nation and the price we have and will pay for our liberties and freedoms. A sincere thank you to all our service men and women past and present.

I saw this picture on a billboard in Chattanooga right after 9/11. It pretty much summed up my feelings at the time:

I saw the AP piece today and did a slow burn...

quote:

A fourth plane that was apparently headed for the White House or the Capitol building in Washington crashed prematurely in a field in Shanksville, Pa. A ceremony was also held there.

Uh, yeah, it crashed prematurely. I guess the fact a group of brave Americans willing to fight for their country fought the hijackers and kept it from hitting either the pentagon or the capital building wasn't relevant or worth mentioning?

If the mainstream media had any shred of credibility left, they lost it today. That was incomprehensible.

I hate to see it, but very few young people remember what's important about December 7, 1941, a date which still lives in infamy for some of us.

There are already highschool kids that can't tell you the date(!) when 9/11 took place. When I say date, I mean the month and day!

Unbelievable.

Reality check. I'll NEVER forget the day. Traffic on the streets died in an instant. Everyone glued to their TVs and radios. A call to Dad to see if our plans for Bonneville were still on and his reply that he served his time in the military to defend our freedom and "damned the Arabs" cause he wasn't going to be a prisoner in his own country. The American flags placed every 1/8th miles across southern Illinois along I-70. The roadside memorials all along the way in small towns. Flags at Four Corners at half-mast.

Never forget. Never

My cell phone rang at 730 in the morning. It is never a good thing. Word was, we are calling to verify your address and contact number. <click>
Packed and stacked, mustered at 1600 that day. The rest is just crazy from there, I know my life will never be the same.

djkaplan, Most of us know why December 7, 1941 is important. But for many of us we didn't comprehend the feelings totally until We felt them for ourselves on September 11.

I wanted to take a second to thank all the people who serve our country, fight for our freedom and especially those who died for us. Sometimes we forget the cost.

September 11, 2001 Yet another day that will live in infamy...

Amen to that! Thanks to those that served!

I'm going to do worse to the AP then to write them a letter... I will simply continue to ignore them as much as possible as being irrelevant.

I watched the History Channel tonight until I couldn't watch it any longer. It was painful to relive that day, but I think everyone should watch the tape of what happened each year so we don't lose the meaning of 9/11 in our minds. We must continue to be diligent.

I also just finished watching the History Channel program.
VERY powerful.
My 23 year old daugher stood there and sobbed when the "guy with the flag" fell. She had to walk away.
She gets it, so does my son. His leave is over on Saturday, we drop him off at the airport in the AM. We may not see him for another year.
He couldn't stand to watch the end of the program. He left the room.

Just an FYI, the AP is a clearing house for news stories -- they have many contributing sources and it has been established that there are some "deficiencies" in the organization. I think it's unfortunate but the story of the fourth plane never quite had the long-lasting impact that the New York and DC planes did. It would be worth writing to the originator of that AP article to point out what was omitted -- you never know how people will react to criticism but you might give it a shot.
