OK, it not me really...but this guy is running a pickup on Hydrogen, tomorrow he is going to show me how it runs with the gasoline shut off. He just needs a larger alternator so we will hook it up to a battery charger. Notice the two batteries, notice the extra large hydrogen generator(for a car)

A fella who hauls lumber from my mill with a Catterpillar engine powered Peterbilt built one of those contraptions for his truck. He is a very level headed person who dosent go for the hokus pokus shit. He claims a 15% increase in fuel mileage with hie Pete. I believe him.

I have been researching this stuff for about 8 months now. It works, no question, but some of the claims that some makers online make are doubtful. There are two guys locally that are running set ups in their cars and have realized substantial increases in mileage per tank. I have a couple customers that are Professors/Scientists (chemists) that say that the process will do what you want it to do but you need to make sure the size of generator is suitable for the vehicle you are installing it on. I would like to install one on my F250 SuperDuty (diesel) but just don't have the time to mess with it right now.

I think more important than MPG is $$$ per gallon.

If I can double the MPG in my car, but it costs me $5 per gallon extra to do it, then I'm behind where I was.

I've posted about this HHO stuff on several forums now. I won't go into any of the math, but I'm still curious why, if these kits are so simple and cost effective, all the major auto makers haven't gotten on board. With all the moaning and bitching and worrying about the CAFE standards, this would be a no brainer.

That and the fact that, according to engineers NOT trying to make a buck, the principles governing these units violate the Laws of Conservation of Energy. Gas contains "X" amount of energy, and using energy from the gasoline (via the alternator), you're somehow extracting more energy from the same gas...??? Something doesn't add up.

Wait, this is just one of those HHO scams?

Oh, brother. I thought this was someone who was running their car on a tank of Hydrogen - which requires little more than the tanks and lines, a 0 psi pressure regular and a special carb.

I'm with SW - these HHO "devices" don't make sense. You will never get more energy out recombining a hydrogen atom as you spent splitting it.

If you could, that would be the definition of a "free energy" machine, which isn't allowed according to the laws of physics.

I'm assuming it's an HHO generator, given that the guy is needing a larger alternator, and he hasn't run it without the gasoline yet. But maybe he has plans for a full hydrogen system...?

Apparently it is not a free thing, it looks like he has it plummed to supplement the gasoline not replace it as there is still a carburetor hooked up with fuel in it. He is saying he gets 40+ MPG with the old F150 pickup supplementing the gasoline. He is installing a 140 amp alternator to better run the HHO generator as the 65 amp alternator is not enough to power the generator and the lights.

It takes more energy to split water than you get out of the mixed Oxygen & Hydrogen when you burn it in your car.

If you can repeal the laws of thermodynamics, I'll take the perpetual motion machine in a nice blue please. I'm still waiting for us to release the saucer energy that French minister said we had in the vaults. I'll bet lunch it works as well as a "HHO" or "browns gas" generator.

The closest we've gotten to perpetual motion is at the particle level. An electric charge can be introduced into a circular ceramic superconductor and the electons will keep migrating if the temperature is kept very low. This was done some 30 years ago, but researchers have been getting the temperature needed for superconductivity higher and higher each year. No free energy of course, but pretty darned closed to perpetual motion.

Sorry if my explanation was too elementary for the people that really know what the hell I'm talking about... because I don't. This was explained to me by a ceramic engineer years ago and I really wasn't paying attention.

Certainly nothing against you Swampy, but that dude SERIOUSLY needs to check his math. He's claiming more than the vendors do!

Is he using a catalyst with his water? that's supposed to make the conversion easier, so it doesn't require so much electricity from the alternator.

I'm about 85% convinced that all the mileage increases these people see actually come from changing their driving habits after they install the units. Kinda' like taking a magic weight loss pill and starting to exercise 4 times a week all at once, then praising the pill when you drop two sizes.

Oh, one more thing. No one that's touting the HHO generators is talking about "hydrogen embrittlement". I'm thinking there could be a LOT of class action lawsuits in the future when critical engine components start crumbling.

"At high temperatures, the elevated solubility of hydrogen allows hydrogen to diffuse into the metal (or the hydrogen can diffuse in at a low temperature, assisted by a concentration gradient). When these hydrogen atoms re-combine in minuscule voids of the metal matrix to form hydrogen molecules, they create pressure from inside the cavity they are in. This pressure can increase to levels where the metal has reduced ductility and tensile strength, up to the point where it cracks open ("Hydrogen Induced Cracking", or HIC)."

It is possible that this system may help save money if the engine runs much of the time not actually propelling the vehicle i.e. idling in traffic. Then you are saving some of this LOST energy by using it to make hydrogen.
But on the highway where the engine is propelling the vehicle at all times this system would be inefficient and be less economic. IMHO
