Grounder and I camped at the gap last week . . .. .we were walking across the camp ground the last morning (about 45 degrees, it was early), and Grounder sez, "that family must really be from the south."

Huh, sez me? and then I noticed he and I were in tshirts and jeans (I refuse to wear shorts off my property, no reason to scare the horses), ,and the family was in down-filled coats, with stocking caps pulled down over there ears, and mittens. . . .. . darned near spit coffee through my nose . . . . .

I was campin' up in North Georgia last weekend (about an hour south of the Gap) so I'm not that bad off. Just the thought of not being able to ride year 'round kills me...

A Viking funeral for me, please, just not yet!

And Glitch, you're exactly right. In my book, if you live north of Interstate 10, you live too far north!

Newfie, I have done the Polar bear swim myself here. Every January 1st we have the dip. 2 years ago 7 of us from my HOG chapter fired up our bikes & rode in 14deg weather for it. This is no shit when I say we had snow 2' deep down by the lake & we were riding thru the ruts made by cars using our feet as outriggers.

Had my wife & our van already down there all nice & warmed up with dry clothes. Got off my bike, stripped down to my suit & jumped in. Wasnt really that bad, water temp was 36 degrees but you numbed up so fast that you couldnt feel it. Spent maybe 5 minutes out there & then made a mad dash for the van & dried off, dressed up & took off on the bike for home.

later that day I could feel the cold in my bones. I swear my legs throbbed for about a week afterwards.

Glitch and Thang, hush up now! some of us TRY to look at winter as an extended maintenance opportunity/customizing session . . . .. please don't burst our bubbles . . . ..

yeah, Viking Funeral is what my family's agreed to . . . . .duct-tape me to the Ma Deuecee, soak me in Sunoco 260, fire me up, and push me down and Dan Ryan entrance ramp at rush hour . . . . .I'll be able top take some goobers with me to Valhala (gotta have someone to shrpen my weapons and pour mead as I fight, drink, and wench through eternity, yes?)

Bomber,

How did you know what we did to our elders!!!!Out on the ice floes - but thats only when you get so old and useless you no good but whale food.

Come on up, sometime around February/March the island is covered in ice, with the exception of the SUNNY SOUTH COAST where the temp hovers around 32 degrees or so. The icebergs are just spectacular.

CJ - jumping in that cold water in his birthday suit wouldn't matter cause when he got out there would be nothing to see!!!!!!!!

Newfie...I was gonna post almost the exact same thing.

And for folks who have never tried the Polar bear swim..its really not as bad as you think. The water is cold, but its the damn air when you come out thats miserable.

In fact for this coming Jan 1st, I invite any & all of the locals down to kenosha to partake in the annual swim.

I've discovered china silk! They make under shirts, long johns and balaclavas out of this stuff. It'll keep you toasty warm and doesn't look like tights (it's all black). The best part about is it's not as bulky and a union suit. I only need it about 1 week a year but what the hell. I got mine at http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=40252

CJ: Thanks, I hope you're right. Belated congratulations on your new ride!

For a great read on Viking funerals: Eaters of the Dead, Michael Crichton.

In retrospect, there is one little issue I didn't think of concerning "men in tights" and that is...I sure as hell would not want to end up in a hospital emergency room wearing them!

I guess I just answered my own questions about the concept. LMAO

Thanks for all the input about more socially acceptable under-attire that works!

Another look at it is I just talked to a very attractive woman friend (She owns a Sportster) about the tights issue, and she said her son wears some sort of tights with the football costume to keep him warm, and she thinks that they make his butt feel smooth, well I asked her if she would rub my butt if I put tights on and she said I didn't have a butt. At least she didn't say no. The question is should I get implants?

Bill,
Head up to R.E.I. on Capitol between the Harley plant and Wheel&Sprocket across the street from the cemetary. Similar stuff to some of Cabela's but a lot closer.
Which reminds me, I've got to renew my subscription to the Cabela's catalog with the new address.

Swampy,
A word of advice, if someone calls it a football "costume", add a few grains of salt to the rest of the dialog.

PolarBearDyna,
No thanks. The only ice cubes I want in December will be floating in a soda, not chinking in my shorts. ;)

Well the kid is only about 13, so it really isn't football yet, and if she asked me I'd wear a Tutu if she would just touch my butt.

As for tights: Under Armour sells stuff called "Loose Gear" with all of the same properties as the more, um, "form fitting" stuff. REI has some kick-ass micro fleece long john bottoms called "Expedition Weight". Toasty and windproof. Won't be confused with tights, but will keep "the boys" toasty.

I don't think I could ever qualify as a MetroSexual. I use a BuckTool (Leatherman) to do my nails, I only have one bottle in the shower (shampoo), I think a Loofa is a break-off old Soviet Republic, and I don't own an iron.

I have yet to be properly domesticated! :)

Swampy,
1. Ask her to take you for a ride on her bike, tell her you want to feel if the vibration is different than on your bike.
2. Next ask her to go for a ride on your bike.
3. Next swap bikes for a short ride.
4. Next ride your own bikes for a long ride together.
5. Trust is built gradually, butt rubbing comes later.
;)

Loofa is a scandanavian snack that mixes fish and lye . . . . . .

CJ, you're right, of course, me and Thang are too ornery to pass easliy or soon . . .. never hurts to plan, though (that's why I wear a helmet) . . .

Thanks, Mikej, I'll remember that. I wonder if her husband, the burly cop guy will ever catch on? It would still be worth it. Suddenly all sorts of images pop into my head. Wow, what an active imagination. I definately need to get out more, but that sounds too metro' for me.

Oh, uh, okay, for some reason I assumed she and you were both single. Best invite her hubby along on those rides and start asking her if she has any single female friends.

Mikej,
Ya know, you might have something there.
All I want is for her to touch my butt, not have my baby.
But if I was single why would I want to waste my time with girls when I could be out riding or hunting or something?
And back on the fashion track again, the best place to get polypropylene is at the army surplus, the tops with the longer collar with the zipper in front is the best. For the bottoms, any pair that is loose, so as to avoid looking anything like tights will do the trick. If you pull your socks(Wool, army surplus) up over the bottom of the legs it will keep the wind from blowing up your legs and freezing the twins into near extinction, as I remember happening last February.
