I've gotten bitten by the Supermotard bug. At least for racing. Still plan on hanging on to the Uly. I'll never give up the Buell on the street. But, with the cost of road racing getting to be higher and higher just to try and stay competitive, I've been doing a lot of research on racing motards. Cheaper in every way. From upkeep to races. Track days are $40 and the yearly license is $50. Been spending a lot of time on motard boards and it seems like something worth trying. Hell, I can still road race it if I want. This is what I've been looking at.

rocco, we have some fellows rocking the motard at our local trackdays and they look like they are having a helluva good time. a couple of them swap back and forth between their sm's and rr bikes. that ktm looks like a 7500 dollar bike and you will still have the usual expenses. the main thing is to HAVE FUN!! tim |

I have no doubt that money still flows out of the pocket in motard racing as well. But the cost per race weekend for racing itself is MUCH less than road racing. Tires are cheaper, depending on what classes you run. License and race registration is cheaper, by a lot. Plus it's something different. I suppose I could always go back to road racing if I don't like it. But I think I will!! |

Hey Rocco if it spins your crank, then I say do it. One of the instructors for Learning curves rides his supermoto on the track during the licensing clinic and it looks like a lot of fun! |

Another loss for Buell :-( Just think if Buell had decided to go ahead with the dirt program. Good luck Rocco, I'm sure you'll love it. |

You have a point there. I believe that motard racing is gaining in popularity because if it relative low cost and fun factor. I think H-D really dropped the ball on this one. I would have loved to race a Buell Supermoto. |

Rocco, Funny but I see more and more just on the streets... like DZR's. They can take a better crash also because of how they are built. Like you I've been mauling and mauling it over to get out of the Buell thing all together. As much as I enjoy tinkering with the bike I don't ride all that often and Andrea hardly at all anymore. Just don't have the same feeling we did and the time. Don't know what we're going to do just yet. My Snowmobile is for sale now. Think I got a guy picking that up this week. I still enjoy coming to the BadWeb though. Met alot of people in ten years. |

Several of the folks I ride with have Super Motards AND Buells . . . . I can;'t imagine anymore fun than I am having on the new Buell. The Super Motard gig just LOOKS fun and is super cheap to do. I even dig the plethora of Ducati Hypermotards that are all over town. I sure wouldn't want to do one of my 250-350 weekend jaunts on one, but they look like fun in the city. I'd damn sure do whatever makes you happy . . . . I've starting taking two days a week to "just ride" and I am loving it! |

I want to throw this out there.........Why buy MV when you could have invested it in Buell and had done the MX/SM scene with an already popular segment. ( Yeah I'm still bitchin about it) |

H-D just wants to expand their European market share. They will be selling MV's and Harley's together. |

Wow man, didn't see this one comin!! Was it the last crash that did it? Like PJ said, what ever turns your crank. U still gonna come out to the track? Ariana would be severely disappointed if you didn't! By the way, let me know if you're gonna sell any of your spares, I may be interested. I want one as a streetbike. Seems like they are the mountainbike of the motorcycling world. |

Well Ben I'd be lying if I said that after bouncing off the tire wall, not able to breathe and figuring that I broke a few ribs, that the though of"why the hell am I doing this again?" didn't cross my mind. That was my 4th crash in 3 years. The worst of the bunch no less. I also think that sooner or later I won't be able to walk away from one. I can only speak for myself. But I don't have a job where I can continue to work while in a cast or sling. I'm a construction worker. I'm up and down ladders all day. Up and down from scissor and boom lifts. I pull wrenches, lift 21 foot lengths of pipe from 1" to 8" (Not by myself on the 8!) Hell, a broken finger could keep me off work for weeks. I absolutely said to myself, "that's it. I'm done." BUT as usual, the itch never goes away. You can ask Karri or Jon. I've been kicking around this idea for over a year. Just never took it that serious. We plan on traveling as much as possible next year. We plan on dragging the Toy Hauler with our bikes to Mount Rushmore next summer. Racing will take a back seat next summer regardless of what I'm racing. With that, nothing is set in stone yet. I haven't even touched the bike since that weekend. We've been riding the hell out of our street bikes since then. I will be racing for years to come, of that I have no doubt. What it will be remains to be seen. If I go the Supermoto route, I can still run Blackhawk in the Ultrlight weight and even a few light weight classes. I may go that route for a year, realize I don't like it, and go back to road racing. Again, I haven't made up my mind yet. Not come to the races? I could never let Ariana, my number one fan down. We're bringing the toy hauler with our bicycles for the last Blackhawk. I need practice on wrenching because I'm going down to Daytona to help out in the 8 hour Moto-ST race. They need to finish 1st, and I'm gonna kick their a$$ if they don't! See ya there in a few weeks. Maybe on my Motard? |

I hear ya man. I can't say that the thought hasn't crossed my mind before. If I went down for any significant amount of time, we'd be screwed! The one week I spent on indemnity pay (roughly half my paycheck) for my knee surgery was a kick in the ass enough. Speaking of which the knee's doing pretty good. The stitches come out on Wednesday. It's still a little stiff. I have my full range of motion back, but getting there is kind of painful. If I try to stretch my quad it damn near kills me! That being said, it's given me and my Physical Therapist some motivation trying to get ready for the last Blackhawk round. I'm gonna come out of this stronger and more flexible than I went in! |
