im at 405 miles on my bike now. almost done with the break in period.
Thing is There have been a couple Oil leaks on the bike. ie. Crank panle of engine looks like its not tight enough just a small amount of oil wet look al the way around the seal.
Also the bottom of the rear swing arm i found a drop of oil. It looks like it came out of a black tube above the rear tire.
I took it to the dealer on friday, and they said that the leaks are fine and normal. Is this True?
And they told me to bring in the bike for the 1000 mile check up at 500 miles.
Does this sound right?
Thanks
Ben

its hard to explain, its not a full leak. I dont have oil driping, Like 1/2 inch around the seal, its just like a wet look. almost like oil has been rubbed around the seal.
i have 100 more miles before i take it in. Hopefully they will fix this on the service.

Is this the same retailer you bought it from!!!!

Oil leaks are not normal unless its an OLD HARLEY thats marking its spot!!!!

I'd say the leaks are from the oil lines going into the swingarm and they may require re-tightning.

If it were me - (I'd also have the factory service manual) I'd snug up the oil lines. Many are not like me (and the world is a much better place because of that) and therefore should take it to a retailer that actually cares for your business.

Go find a reatiler worthy of your time and business - Oil leaks, seepage or whatever is going on is NOT NORMAL.

yes the same retailer.
Im only 100 miles off from the service do you think i should bring it in for service and have them clean it all up and retightin and if it still hapens then come back and complain? cause the closest other retailer is about 130 miles away.

I have about 8,500 miles on my XB9S and I have not had one leak. It is definitely not normal. They are trying to get some money out of you in the guise of a regular service. It is under warranty make them fix it or take it to someone who will.

no it ain't normal. The only thing where there is residual oil is assemblye lube at the oil cool lines. Just wipe it off it they didn't clean it enuff and keep an eye on it.
But "oil leaks" are not normal

Oil Leaks are not normal,

Thats a funny one telling you oil leaks are normal!!!

Ride the 130miles, bring an extra litre of oil just in case, and have it repaired.

Thats if its not the residual oil that Bubba was speaking of.

If you've told them about the leaks (weeps whatever), and they told you to bring it in at 500 miles instead of 1000 miles. Sounds to me like they are wanting to make sure everything is ok with you and the bike. If they had said don't worry about it, and we'll take a look at it when you get 1000 miles, I'd worry. Go in at 500 and see what they say, if they fix you up you're good, if all they do is look and hand ya BS then find someone else. I'd give 'em the benefit of the doubt, but that's just me...

i went in today and spoke directly to the Buell Mechanic. He came out and checked out the bike. Checked out he Crank shaft leaks.
He said that the seal's are PAPER seals and they are made to Fill with oil to create the seal.
He explained that they all do this and just wash it off. It is fine and to Ride it And have fun.
I also asked him about my rear swing arm leak.
It was oil comeing from a black tube, It is an |Overflow. Turns out the tube was in the wrong spot it was above the tire instead of tucked by the foot peg. he fixed that for me.
I asked him if i chould break 3k rpms after 500 miles "because im at 430 now" He said it is good to keep doing the 3k rpm break in all the way untill 1000 miles on the bike when i do my first service.
All In all This guy was much nicer then the Harley guy and, i tend to believe what he says to be true.
He took time out of his day to come check it out and even fixed that hose and let me know about the break in.
i dont think he whould lie to me cause he is the only buell mechanic there and if something is wrong he is going to be the one fixing it anyways.
Thanks for the help guys.
Im off to take off the reflectors off the buell.

When I first bought my cyclone (new) I rode it around a couple hundred miles or so and noticed a couple of places (primary one of them that had what looked like a leak. It was not dripping but mor of a thin line where the cases met. My mechanic said don't worry it is normal to a brand new bike. The whole breaking in thing and sure enough he was right! After a few more miles I simply wiped it off and it never re-appered

When I had slight leaks coming from the oil lines right after I got my XB, the dealer told me to come right up so they could check it. It seems some come with loose oil line fittings. I snugged them up but still get a slight spray so it is going in for the 1K tomorrow. Worth it since they check it over. I did switch to Snyth 3 at 600 miles and considered my breakin over at that time.

That is somewhat pathetic that there is only one Buell mechanic.
