I am running into the "Harley" attitude less and less now. Maybe it's because everyone I am encountering know me by now, but it seems like I am getting a lot more open minded people then I was 2 years ago. | ||

i love all the replies. i went for a ride today just about 50 miles around the county, but just for sh!ts and giggles, i decided not to wave to any other cyclists on the road. I went past one of the biggest harley dealers in SE wisconsin (suburban) and there was an orange m2 just like mine in the parking lot (the only buell i saw today). i saw quite a few harleys, and a few sport bikes out today. oddly enough, i got a friendly wave from a guy on a purple SV650, and a casual 'hi, how are ya' from an older gent on a road king that passed me on the highway. out of maybe 50 riders, 2 waved. so much for going for a friendly cruise... | ||

This time of year, I just get tired of waving. This morning on the way to work I stopped to put my face mask and glove liners on, and my neighbor, who I just put tires on his bike 2 weeks ago didn't even stop to see if everything was OK. | ||

a rhetorical question: which is worse, a Harley rider that disses Buells but who has never ridden one, or a Buell rider that disses Harleys who has never ridden one? perhaps both camps are equally ignorant. on another note: i get to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway all the time, and, as such, spend some time here and there behind a Harley or two, sometimes even groups of a dozen or more. i'd estimate that a majority of these riders, at least 90% or more, wave to EVERY motorcycle we encounter, rice, scooter, or otherwise. on that same vein, Denise and i frequently frequent a moto-oriented hangout on the Parkway called Stations Inn, where on the weekends you're likely to see a hundred or more bikes parked at any one time, the place elbow to elbow with *gasp* BIKER TYPES! and yet, amongst all the Milwaukee Iron you'll always find Jap bikes, German bikes, Italian bikes and more, and not once in all the times i've ever been there has ANYONE been hassled because of what they rode in on. not once. maybe the Harley riders up here in the mountains are more courteous than the Harley riders where the rest of y'all live. i've been riding for almost four and a half decades, and have been a BadWeB'er since day one. the biggest "attitudes" i encounter in my travels? here on the board, Buell riders dissing Harley riders. Schmity, the only way you're gonna get an accurate answer to your question is to interview every Harley rider in the world. posing a query like that on a Buell board like this is gonna skew the responses something fierce. that said, i'll ride with anyone, any time (i spent yesterday riding the Parkway with my neighbor Donald, he on a Suzuki Burgman), and as long as you're in the wind, you're ok by me. hmmmm, maybe not all Harley riders are assholes after all.  | ||

Schmity, I noticed the lack of the "two finger hello" as well and it just wasn't HD people to me, I noticed that there wasn't alot of hellos between bikers in general...probably because with 120,000 people riding around, folks arms get tired. | ||

maybe the Harley riders up here in the mountains are more courteous than the Harley riders where the rest of y'all live. my sentiments exactly about the upstate and north carolina along with east tennessee. i'm gonna hate going back to tampa but that's where work is taking me for a while at least. | ||

Shhh, no one had told Jerry Haughton nor his Road King that the bike is not a Buell. He still rides it like it's a Lightning Tour and it goes along with the treatment. Most bikers who actually live to ride seem to accept Buells, they just don't understand them. They do pick on my Blast, but they also pick on Sportsters, mothers, sisters, girlfriends, etc. I don't take it personally. | ||

I too have notice the lack of waving. But I think its more because there are less true motorcyclists on the road. It was like back when I had a Wrangler and other Jeep owners would wave, you just kind of expected it.... It just seems to not happen on the bike anymore. | ||

less true motorcyclists on the road That maybe true but there are a lot more on the road and a lot of good things have happened. I noticed there is more and bigger MC parking at new buildings. There are a lot more women riders which is always a great thing. And of course the more of us out the more we will be respected (I hope). A lot of cops, Fireman and other first responders ride and I like that. The last time I got pulled over (in SC) the cop gave me a warning for not having a headlight (it burned out about 5 miles prior.... He rode (I was on a ironhead sporty at the time) and pointed me in the right direction to get a new one and followed me only so no one else would bust me. I thought that was real cool for a cop and for a rider. I saw my old FLH running down the road a while ago and waved but he did not return the wave. I ran into him again at a gas station and told him that was my old bike and we talked for 20 minutes. He was a new rider but sure was proud of my old Bagger. It was good to see she is being taken care of. I did tell him I waved to him on the road earlier and he said he did not typically wave to sport bikes. I think he might change his mind now but no big deal, to each his own. Frank | ||

"...what do the older Harley riders think of Buells and their riders?" I liked Buells so much, I sold my 1990 Springer last year to add another Buell to my stable. I began to miss riding a Harley, so in Jan of this year I picked up a nice 02 Sporty. Then I went and did the track day at the 25th... This caused me to purchase another Buell for a track/race bike. I now have 3 Buells. Yesterday, I sold the Sporty for track/racing funds!! So... "...what do the older Harley riders think of Buells and their riders?" I think Buells are great and their riders are some of the best people on the planet!!! P.S. When asked how I like my Buells, my response is "It's the most fun you can have on two wheels!!!" P.S.S. I will have a Harley again... someday... LOL | ||

From what I've noticed the older harley guys (and I don't mean the "old" guys, but the ones who have been riding all their lives and they're bikes are their main mode of transpo) are generally pretty cool about them once they realize they are made in the us... | ||

Hell, why not ask...you did get a Uly last time you asked, didn't you? Actually Carlos and I were talking about getting the M2 up and running and having it be the "mountain bike". Of course, it would need a place to sleep (hint, hint)while we're in the flatlands and need to be ridden (more hinting here) once in a while. It's no 1125, but it's fun to ride! It sure would have been nice to have it this past weekend when Alex and Heather were in town. Let's see what the winter brings. As for the topic at hand...what difference does it make what you ride? Each bike manufacturer makes some model that appeals to people for different reasons. Carlos wants a HD at some point. If he's looking for two up riding, the only one I like is something like FB's Road King. Of course, never being on one, it might not be the bike for us. I guess time will tell. We have had the best time riding with FB&D on the RK through the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sure, we get some interesting looks sometimes, but who cares. The rides are great and the company is even better. Ride what you like, ride with people you not only like, but like to ride with. Life is too unpredictable. | ||

John- Thanks, she is a monster.....scary fast and not even broke in yet. I wish my M2 rode as nice!  Jerry_Haughton- In my opinion (again my opinion) I think they are mostly like the people who frequent this forum. People who actually live and breath motorcycling. Not the folks (which I see a lot around here where I live) who get into it for the image. I always thought there was some sort of motorcycle commeradery....guess I might be wrong. | ||

I pulled into my local HD dealer on my Uly that was having a show and shine. About a minute after I got off my bike the guy on the PA says "we have no entries yet for the foreign catagory" as he's looking at me. Two things that make this funny. First, I bought my Uly there.....although I admit I don't think Mr PA actually worked there. Second is the fact I am in CANADA. Every single bike there was foreign!! Ulywife is right, ride what you like. I've owned 2 harleys and now I have the Uly. Even when I was a greasy slimy "biker" with hair down to my butt I'd still wave if I wasn't using that hand for something important like the clutch. If your so concerned about what everyone else thinks you'll never get around to having fun......and that would really suck! | ||

I wave at any motorcyclist and don't care if they wave back or not. The grim faced dew-rag skid-lid white t-shirt and black leather vest guys usually ignore me. Big loss... Nice uniforms they wear. Scooters I ignore as they aren't real motorcycles.  | ||

what will be really interesting is when dealers start selling MV's. How's the Chrome Army gonna feel when a crotch rocket sells for more than their Geezer Glides? Then the shoe is on the other foot. Maybe the attitude will change a tad. | ||

I think FB&D have the in on the wave! The only complaint I have is that I would like to be warned when a Lt. Dan wave is coming. I almost fell off the bike the last time on BPR leaving the Wife to ride the bike. I always wave and always check to see if a biker on the side of the road needs help. If I get to a congested motorcycle area like Daytona, I quit waving since you would look like Forest Gump if you try to wave at every one there. | ||

I was at the 105th also. There's no LOVE...I expect that. In return, I own a Jeep Rubicon and when I see Hummers and Toyota fj Cruisers I give them the stink eye.
