Sorry to hear that. He was a greatly under-recognized guitarist from all I've read.

Is he the one who was in that accident on that other thread? Or was that someone else?

JR was hugely underappreciated if you ask me...

Don't know why exactly, but I still get a kick out of the part in Smokey when he is trying to get Fred out of the lake.... and of course the bar fight scene followed by driving over the the bikes.

I was very saddened to hear he passed on. A very talented musician.

Tonight I dug out my original 1978 Smokey and the Bandit laserdisc. Good times, good times...

I met Jerry Reed's former personal assistant when she was living in Atlanta. She had only good things to say about him and the way he treated people around him. He was apparently exactly like the 'good time' character he portrayed in the movies. I thought he was at his best as an actor when he played the heavy, though.

He was a shit hot guitar player, that's for sure. His playing might be underrated as far as the general public, but his skills were absolutely appreciated by other guitarists, both famous and unknown.

Gonna miss ol' Jerry.

Never ever seen Chet Atkins playing a Telecaster before. To see him trading licks with Jerry Reed on another Tele... that's so cool!
