I am sure that this thread has been gone over before but I need a new rear tire and the one that I have did not last as long as I had hoped. With out giving way to any bias I will refrain from listing my current tire. I have an M2 that I use for everything from commuting to touring. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

What ever you get, replace both front and rear.

The front is in like new shape, replace because you want the tread and traction to match for the best ride and compatability?

@ Bcord - I'm curious as to the reason it's so important to replace both front and rear at the same time?

I'm replacing a rear scorpion after 9000 miles because from what I've read I should get even more miles out of a strada. I don't see the point in spending another $100+ when the front looks like it's got at least another 3000 miles in it.

What I should have said replace with a like tire, Different compounds could certainly cause problems, handling problems. Some tire brands handle better in wet condition than others. A point to consider if you are going to mix brands.
There are reasons that some tires out last another. Performance tires tend have a softer compound and wear a lot faster, in some cases only about 2500 mile, The Road Pilot will get you about 10,000 miles with some luck and maintainence. The dual compound tire will get even more miles, hard compound down the center of the tires where most miles are recorded and a softer compound on the sides where it is needed..
