I'm surprising my best friend for his 25th birthday by flying out to visit him. About 7 years ago, he decided to move with his girlfriend to scenic Wetmore, KS (about an hour straight north of Topeka). I'm looking for info on things to do. They both work a TON (he's been trying to get his own company started out there) so I don't think they do much recreational stuff. I've been looking on Google Maps and I see a couple lakes and things, but I have no idea if there are public beaches or anything like that. I can't get over how much NOTHING there is there. It's just farm after farm after farm. Should be an experience. So anyways, just looking for some cheap entertainment while I'm out there. |

I think I found some stuff on Perry Lake. Anything good there? It seems there are a couple public beaches. Also - looking for something fun and quick to do in Kansas City, MO (where we're flying into). It'll be in the morning. |

If you are a bar type guy....Westport is the place to be in K.C. It is close to the Plaza which has some good dining and higher end shops. The American Royal should be happening soon. An Equine type event with concerts, BBQ cookoff and rodeo type stuff. H-D plant is located in K.C. Mo and can be toured....Kenny |

I'm good with bars, but our plane lands at 9:45am, so it might be a little early to start drinking, lol. I forgot about the HD plant - looks like it's less than 5 miles from the airport, so we may hit that up. |

XL1200R - I was born and raised in Topeka, and lived in KC for awhile after college. In KC: Bar Areas - Power & Light District (Downtown next to new Sprint Center). Lots of top notch bars...kinda pricey. - Westport (Smaller and older bar district, just south of downtown KC). Not as busy. - The Plaza (Upscale Bars, Restaurants and Shopping, just south of downtown KC as well). - Legends Area (West side of KC on way to Topeka. This area is very new and next to the Kansas Speedway. Lots of Shopping and Restaurants/Bars) If you are into gambling, there are several nice Casinos along the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. Hope this helps. Check out the KCLW section of the Stormfronts area to talk to a bunch of people that live in KC. |

Ditto Westport and the Plaza. One set of grandparents lived just two blocks north and we would walk down there all the time. When I was of age we would go to Westport and go to the bars with live music. The art museum just west of the plaza is one of the best. The Dwight Eisnhower musem is in Abilene and is also a good visit. |

We actually looked into renting a Harley while we were out there instead of a car, but the dealers that rent are all south of KC, and the airport is north, so they're like 45 min or an hour away. Not sure how we'd get there. |
