hmmmm . . . .an interesting twist to the concept of selling nostalgia (or heritage, if you will) . .. can you imagine a good performing Sporty? I can! |

I like that yellow one... It makes me want to flip the bars over on my CB750F-SS . Yep, I think I'll do that tonight. I need to rebuild the forks and the front brake calipers and reservoir anyway... |

All those bikes are powered by the 1000DS motor which has been getting great reviews powering up the SS, Monster and Multistrada. Looks like fun to me! More fun than an isolated Sporty... |

That is about the only thing I'd park next to the S1 in my garage- apart from my 95 Saab 900SE Convertible. Damm, now I gotta save up ALL my money for the spring!!!! |

I guess i'm just living up to my handle, I like the looks of the GT1000. Good looking with room for two and standard ergo's. These old bones won't do the sporty ergos and my head doesn't think all of those plastic covered things look like motorcycles. Not really up on all the Ducati engine variations. Does this one need to spend a day at the dealer for valve adjustments every 6000 miles? |

Can't speak to the 1000DS, but that is a valve check/adjustment interval for the 900's. Also calls for a timing belt replacement--they're easy to access and while you have them off, it's a great time to make any adjustments you want to cam timing should you be so inclined. The 2-valvers are notoriously easy to work on; get the video and buy a shim kit, some basic tools and become proficient at measuring shims or get the Brickwood shim kit and stretch the next valve check out to around 24000 miles. Rest easy, the Ducati aftermarket support is extensive. Glowing reports from the field on the 1000DS! Sport1000 in red and black? Uh, huh... Oh by the way, excellent Sporty there Timbo!! edited by Kevyn on October 23, 2003 |

I've ridden the Multi-Strata with the new 1000 engine. That engine ROCKS!!! New\Old Ducati's look nice too. Don't sweat the valve adjustments...2 valvers are not hard to do, jeeze, I even do my 4 valve myself!! Steve |

Hey sign me up for the Sport 1000, awesome looking bike, pure function. Like Trick said, don't sweat the valves. My friend has 20K on his 97 monster, I believe he's had them adjusted twice. That bike (the monster) seems to have some (tube frame) Buellishness to it, leaky this and that, dead batteries, gummed up carbs ..... But its a damn good looking bike and a hoot to ride. This topic reminds me of the NE adventure when a group of us were talking to Erik outside Centennial HD in Ohio. I asked why no more tube frames and he commented that the tube frame design was 17yrs old and past its prime. Seems logical enough, but you wonder what effect killing off your existing product has on the faithful. Ducati has kept the 900ss around forever, it's owners span a lot of time. Its one of the few bikes that old and young seem to agree on (okay pre FE bikes anyways). Maybe Buell will bring back the classic S1Wl ( make mine molten orange and nuke blue) in 17 yrs with a killer motor and 2020 suspension, whatever that might be. I believe a purely functional design will always be in vogue. Looks like the italians have a lesson for us here. |

Timbo, I just saw the Sporty -- way too sweet. I've been wanting to put something like that together for the longest. Thanks for the pics. Greg |
