Wow, that is great. Looks like Motorcyclist may have finally exposed and sunk Snell. This is excellent info. I'd like to know more about what the star ratings mean, I didn't find much info at first browse.

Looks like my $150 closeout AGV works as well as any of the Shoeis and all but one of the Arias. I'm sure it's way noisier, but good to know the nut is protected.

I can't believe that the HJC HQ-1 which in the USA is the AC-12 beat Arai. I feel alot better about my AC-12 Carbon knowing it beat the Arai RX7.

The new testing procedure has been pretty much villified by the industry (and press) here in the UK, as it does not replicate the forces that are present in 'real' motorcycle accidents. One test is for a side impact which in 99% of cases would not occur because the riders shoulder would absorb most of the impact before the helmet gets touched.

It remains to be seen if the new scheme is accepted over time or not, but early results show some alarming discrepancies beyween established brands and previous testing procedures.

At the end of the day I would still trust a Arai RX7 over a cheap budget Shark lid ; ) Although you do undoubtedly pay for the name, you tend to get what you pay for too.

Not been my experience with Arai. Mostly name and hype.

I've loved my Arais and Shoeis for quality and comfort. I also used to be able to get them well below half price. Now with two kids, I'm on more of a budget and the discount is gone.

I've been trying to buy 1st class safety and sacrificing some comfort and noise. I had a Suomy last time and an AGV this time.

I am buying non-Snell helmets that have the British cert due to the Motorcyclist Magazine testing.

If this star systems is flawed, I hope they can rectify it, because it is or could be the perfect consumer tool.
