Saw Michael Phelps make history yesterday... I am thrilled... I swam almost all the same events in 2.5 days as a regular schedule growing up as an olympic hopeful... minus the relays and add the mile on a Sunday afternoon. And what a wild ride to win the 100 meter fly by 0.01 seconds... How awesome is this??? | ||

That 100 fly was something. I've only seen one convincing photo that he actually one - taken from under the swimmers, you can clearly see Phelp's fingers starting to bend back as he touches the wall while the other swimmer was maybe a 1/4" from touching. Amazing stuff. I have gotten such a kick out of watching him and the women's volleyball team - just dominating. | ||

The 4 X 100 free relay was also amazing.... I have it on DVD with U Verse... Lochte (sp?) pulled it off... what a way to go out... he said he was simply tired of losing!!! | ||

Phelps showed a lot of class, giving credit to his team mates and thanking the guys who got them there (I guess he was thanking the substitute guys who some of the legs in the prelims. Awesome! | ||

I don't think I have ever seen Phelps doing anything that wasn't "class act". Wasn't it the last Olympics that he sat out a race that he was a shoe in for another medal so that an alternate could compete? | ||

Great pics Bark, Phelps would be a great Bueller with that perma-grin. "Wasn't it the last Olympics that he sat out a race that he was a shoe in for another medal so that an alternate could compete?" Sure was, you know something? I think he'd have done the same thing this olympics too. | ||

Phelps was amazing. The part, and I confess I got caught up in Olympic fever, I liked best was the anchor leg of that relay. . . . that guy was FLYING! | ||

Despite all the attention Phelps is getting, he isn't the only hero of the U.S. swimming team this year. There have been more than a handful of upsets. | ||

Growing up, I remember seeing a picture in my brother's room of Mark Spitz wearing all 7 medals. That dude had a big honkin' moustache, a huge head of hair, and wore a basic banana hammock, and his record stood since 1972. That's awesome. You can't swim with a Thomas Magnum moustache these days! | ||

I too am back in full blown Olympic fever, cussing at the judges and throwing stuff when they goof. Phelps for sure is a class act Ft_B. You recall correctly. He indeed did the unthinkable and passed on one of the relay events in 2004 so that his buddy could compete. He could have had 7 golds in 2004, but put his friend first. It doesn't get any more classy than that. | ||
