My son bought his first bike this summer while he has been home from college. I tried to point him toward a Blast, but he fell in love with the Ducati Monster 696, and since it was his money, he bought what he wanted.

Well, he hasn't had the opportunity to ride it much, but today we took the opportunity to hit the road. We did about 200 miles, most of it back roads. I did the best I could do to find some twisty roads in Florida, and actually did find a few. Nothing like North Carolina, but good enough to be entertaining.

I was really pleased. He did very well. It was by far his longest day on a bike. We only had a couple of short stops, so we were on the bikes for a good while. He is sore now, but we both had a great time. Too bad I take him back to school next Saturday. He graduates in December, but he is thinking about living in another state after graduation. I don't like to think about that. But today was great anyway.

Recently, my dad was able to come to the track day at Nashville Super Speedway. He doesn't ride. In fact, I'm the only member of either side of my family who has EVER ridden a motorcycle.

It was the first time my dad has ever seen me do what I love. He wants to get a trike, but my mother is STRONGLY against it.

There are so few experiences where father and son get to enjoy something together.

Cherish the days, Dyna.

Sounds like a great day with your son! I am looking forward to three track days with my son next week at VIR, he rides a Ducati 1098R now and DUSTS the old man on the XBR,,, makes a father proud!!! LOL Even though we now live 500 miles apart, there are the GREAT moments to come and the memories of some wild rides that his Mom still doesn't care or need to know about!

my dad is coming to my area labor day weekend to bring my my new bike and run his drag bike at the Little river race way in Temple texas and hopefully he brings his street bike so I can take him for a ride through the nice central texas back roads. Of course it wont be a high speed knee dragging type ride (one cuz i need to get used to my new m2 and second his road bike is an electra glide) but still it will be fun to go riding with the ol man. Besides He promised me a pass on his dyna.

Riding with your kids, and other family members, is outstanding.

My son and I have been riding together since he was about 8 y.o. and we still do almost every weekend. He started with me dirt bike riding and had his first street bike when he was about 20. Now 41 and Dad of course is an older rider but I have not needed to gravitate to a cruiser yet. He is on his SV1000 and I am now on an 1125 after many other types of bikes. He lives with his family about 15 minutes away and we really enjoy sport bike riding here in the canyons of the Rockies. Our philosophy is to always ride for tomorrows ride and enjoy todays ride to the fullest. We DO have much fun. Nothing like riding with you son or dad. For all those fathers and sons, please stay safe and have fun and do it again tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow and..........................well you know. Bob

My son was suppose to finish his motorcycle class this weekend but due to LOTS of rain here he was only able to get half way thru the class. He's thinking of taking the written test at the DMV so he can at least get his permit so we can ride legit. He'll have to reschedule the rest of the class in the near future.

he wanted to ride today after his class but, again, the rain. So instead, he and his step-dad are in the garage putting on new brakes for his car. And then, he may learn to change the oil on his new 2001 Sv650S. Lots to learn.

Oh well, there will be much more opportunity to ride with him and I can't wait. Family bonding time.

Well, the sun did finally come out and we just had to go for a ride. Took about a 70 mile run and my son had a smile on his face from ear to ear. Can't wait to have many more family rides. WHAT A BLAST!!!

Some of my fondest memories of the boys (now 27 and 29) growing up were Thursday nights.

Every Thursday I'd come home early from the office. Bryce was about 10 and it was his job to have the bikes out, chains lubed, tires checked and the cooler of Gatorade and the riding gear ready.

I'd get home, change, hook the trailer on the Suburban and we'd all meet at Patersons. The local HD/Buell dealer had about 80 acres and a couple of us in construction had built one of the best home dirt tracks and TT tracks in the US. There were better than 8 miles of trails in the woods, a complete motoX track and about 25 os us, Moms, Dads, kids and anybody who wanted, would gather every Thursday night in the Summer and just have a blast.

Erik bunged his ankle up there one night and I always felt bad that the first year Jason Pridmore got a big contract he (on a pedal bike no less) shattered his leg and was out the entire year.

For the most part it was nothing but fun, more fun and great memories.

The only thing better than riding with your son (or daughter) is riding with your wife and daughter (or son).

My family at Homecoming

I am a very fortunate man.
