Couple of guys I work with are GsxR riders and we were having a discusssion about cornering. I didnt push it much but they were saying that the Gsxr could out corner a Buell anyday. So Im wondering is Buell cornering just our opinion or is there some type of proof? | ||

It has nothing to do with "better or worse", it's simple physics. Ask them to read MOTORCYCLE DYNAMICS by V. Cossalter and THEN continue the discussion. Court | ||

Bike magazine (UK) did an article on the 50 best handling motorcycles of all time. the Firebolt came out on top. It still comes down to the rider - put me on a Firebolt and a well-ridden Ural could still pass me in the corners. | ||

Just got rid of my GSXR. No pro here by any means but I can damn sure drag some knee from time to time. Much harder to do on the GSXR as they dont feel as stable as the Buell. Also on the Buell you can easily move around while in full lean to change body position,bike position or eat a sandwich if ya like. Send them boys my way I'll learn em. | ||

Chad may chime in here, but he has both a Buell and a GSXR. He has updated both suspensions for weight and has added after market rearsets on the GSXR. He's always made the statement that the GSXR is much harder to ride than the Buell as far as cornering. | ||

IMHO the guys are not worth arguing with. What are they using as proof that any given gxsr can out corner an XB? I bet these guys would be a little surprised when a dirt bike (motard) can out corner a gxsr on a tight/twisty road. I have ridden 600 750 and 1000 gxsrs. IMHO my 9R is easier to corner than any gxsr I have ridden. Another thing to think about: A few years back, I had a guy on an old norton (dual rear shocks) pass me, on my niner, like i was backing up on the dragon. Its the Indian not the arrow. Generally speaking, most Indians that talk smack about other bikes, cant haul the mail. | ||

I've owned both and feel that my Buell is the best handling bike that I have owned. Lets see, its actually my 12th bike I've owned. Now that said, Iam no road racer and could be outrun by a Ninja 250 by a good rider. Its a lost cause with the gixxer guys. Most are posers, some actually ride, but the majority could never ride the gixxer to its full potential. Ignore it, get some track days in, learn the Buell and then promptly smack their ass. | ||

Its called a bike nite, do a lead and follow, pick some of the local twisties, give the Buell some room to play and see how they feel after the work out  I do this on a weekly basis, it works great for getting Kawayamahondzukis in on trade. And for the Multi Strada, Vstrom, GS crowd we do dual sport rides off pavement in the winter. I cheat, I use the same bike for both | ||

That UK article was NOT about the "Best Handling Bikes of All Time." It was the "Best CORNERING Bike." Not exactly the same thing. The Firebolt was rated the most fun to corner! | ||

I haven't ridden a GSXR of any year or size, but I did ride a ZX-10. The bike was fun, but it was noticeably slower to turn-in and transition than my XB12R. Hammer - what'd you replace it with it? | ||

Not one person I ride with that has a GSXR or CBR or R whatever would say anything like that... at least not in front of me. I'll never forget waiting for the rest of the group with my step-brother (GSX-R1000) in North Georgia. When the snails showed up (finally) they asked him how long he had to wait for me and he just shook his head. They know. | ||

I love how squids criticize other bikes. I haven't really noticed it with real riders though. A few weeks ago I barrowed my dad's Sportster and was on a twisty road, some squids easily blew past me on a straight. Sadly, they couldn't handle their turns. I was riding their asses after a couple turns. Funny stuff | ||

I think it's mostly rider. I don't typically like group rides, but I went on one with a couple fellow Buellers and a bunch of sportbike guys and it was two Buells and a capable guy on a GSXR 750 leading. The rest of the pack was just cruising well behind us. They were only visible after waiting at stops and on long straights. One guy was a new rider with a new Buell...and he doesn't really count. He crashed into tall grass in a slow corner and him and the bike were fine except for the bruised pride. I think a lot of guys that ride Buells are interested in handling vs outright power and that's the difference. (Message edited by Rick_A on August 15, 2008) | ||

I was at the bar for a half an hour before they showed up  Damn I love this bike. | ||

The geometry of the Buells do make them some of the better handling bikes on paper.With that said,different riders will have different opinions.there is no definite answer. | ||

And that is the point any time they all start talking about my bike this, my bike that... then it is off to the dirt turn around for them. They catch on pretty quick that is not all about top end. (which is always their favorite brag) | ||

You recall the title of the article incorrectly... it was the best cornering bike, which actually makes it even more fitting that it was brought up in this context. I don't know bout any of which is better the gsxr or the bolt I do know with my old fat ass I have not enjoyed the I4 expierience I enjoy the torque of the duece of which I THANK GOD HAVE resureccted to ride AGAIN bye bye old KZ1000 for now she goes back into moth balls tommorrow | ||

I think it is entirely possible to find some aspect of "cornering" where any of the GSXR series would perform better than any Buell. It probably wouldn't be on a street. I have personally embarassed sportbikes with a 2001 K1200LT on more than one occasion and I am not very good, just ride a lot. Find a road with longitudinal hot tar snakes and any Harley will out handle any Buell. Cover a country road with pig shit and any Ural will out handle any Buell. Day in and Day out a Uly is about as good as it gets for street riding, I usually ride my Nightster as I don't really care about handling that much anymore. More into style and comfort these days. | ||

I have only been riding a few months and a few weeks ago on highway 36 (windy mountian road) I had a guy on a dresser with ape hangers fly by me. Damn I gotta get better in the twisties. Point being not the arrow... |
