Court - you are a good guy, I have seen you help countless number of people here. I respect your dedication to Erik and the Buell brand. Even if you did show up at the 20th in silver Caprice (if I remember correctly)... Besides you seem to always say the M2 was the best bike ever built. Maybe one day you will tell me why.
What's this? A manufacturer has not managed to iron out all the kinks in a first model year product within 12 months of it's release? I would take my business elsewhere for sure!
So if you have come to expect issues why would anyone buy a 1st year model??? What I don't understand is why you would say it's ok for a first year model to have problems? Raise your standards and expect that any product that is put on the market is a good product. If it isn't, call it what it is, half done, and not worth the money!
How will the company you bought it from support problem resolution over time?
Well, if you owned a tubeframe Buell and your rockerbox gasket failed, or your speedo sensor (even though Buell created an updated version), or your M2 tailsection cracked due to excessive vibrating after the 1 year warranty, you paid for it to get fixed or did it yourself. Do you think Buell is going to be handing out free service work to load updated fuel maps after the 2 year warranty on your bike runs out? Do you think dealerships are going to do it for free? Good luck with that, let me know how that works out for you. Ask the number of X1 owners who have had to go back for a TPS reset how free it is. |

The 1125R I test rode spent a LOT of time below 4k rpm, however, I didn't experience any substantial fueling issues.
Truth is, the power comes on strong at about 3500rpm. I found myself cruising comfortably around 3k rpm.
I found the same thing on my demo. It was a hot day too, low 80's IIRC. It performed well in city traffic, but the real fun started when I had her cruisin at 70, then opened it up and shot to 100 mph. Can't wait for the 09's to come in so I can get that sexy white unit. |

As a general rule, I prefer not to.
Look at every single first new model of any car or bike and you are going to find issues.
First year models generally have lower resale value than subsequent years.
I bought a 2004 Acura TL, the first model year. That year had special tires from Bridgestone designed specifically for the TL that tended to "flat spot" in cold weather and when the car sat for too long. They would literally rumble until the shape of the tire returned. They also sucked in the rain. They were subsequently replaced on later models. The dash board of the 04 models were constructed of a vinyl that tended to dry out and "gray" prematurely. The materials were changed in later years. The door window motors were known to fail. The supplier was new and produced faulty motors. Later models came with a different supplier motor. The parchment leather was also known to scale if the user didn't condition it frequently (which most don't do). The leather in later years was changed. The exhaust hangers were suspended via rubber pieces to help isolate the body from exhaust vibrations. Unfortunately, the rubber used was temperature sensitive and tended to harden in cold weather. My car low rumbles like a stock car in the winter (it's kinda cool actually) until these hangers warm up. These hangers were changed in later years. There were also some models that experienced leaking around the seals on the rear window. Evidently, the seals were damaged prior to installation at the factory (like an oil leak in a crimped oil filter seal) allowing the smallest amount of water into the car on certain models.
This is a car produced by Honda. They surely should've been able to get these things right the first time, right?
What changes were made on the XB line between 2003 to 2009? What changes were made, specifically, on the Ulysses between 2006 to 2009?
Somehow, I sincerely doubt the veracity of your concern for the 1125 line. |

Answer 1) If nobody chose to buy a 1st year model, then there would not be a second year model.
Answer b) Just because one understands a situation does not automatically make them ok with it. Most refinements we see in the products we buy large and small are due to customer feedback both positive and negative. That is one of the key components of "product evolution".
Response 1) A persons standards is just that, their standards, not mine or yours. As far as I know most Buell dealers give their potential customers the opportunity to ride their potential purchase. This is a lot more convenient in making a choice to purchase than the "No we don't give test rides but trust me it's a great bike" response you get from the other brands (most of them anyway). If you feel the product is half done then that is your opinion based on hearsay and armchair speculation.
To insinuate that anybody who would purchase this product is blind deaf and dumb is also your opinion, because if that statement was made on real facts you would owe a lot of people on this board an apology I think.(Not myself though, I'm an Xb owner with a happy outlook on life. )

That's cool, I said what I wanted to say. I will wait again till the next review comes out and see what happens. In the meantime, I will see if the opportunity to test ride one becomes available. |
