Just got back from the ride. Late October and the heat made me stinky. You gotta love SoCal. This ride was 19 miles of tight, pebbly, one-lane roads. Thanks to Sparky, Barbara, and Nelson for organizing this bad boy.

nice work, Forger, as usual :)

that'd be the Ortega Hwy in the pix, yes? the last time i did this road was at night on an X1 with a bum headlight, trying to stay in dr. Steve's draft and use HIS headlight for guidance. damn lucky i/we got thru THAT night in one piece.

glad to see Sparky grinnin' in your pix; it's hard to keep a good man down.

and you, stinky? like, tell us something we DON'T know! ;)

thanks again for the pix, it was indeed a truly fine day to be alive :)

That be the one and only Ortega Chili Highway. They charged $2 for a 12oz Diet Coke at the Lookout. Damn.

Thanks for the pics of the Lookout...You caught one of my good friends Stan in the background of the second shot. Looks like he is heading to the side of the building for either shade or a wind break. Old habits are hard to break. LOL

Wow...looks like a lot of fun. I see at least five or six people there who I met at SW Torque Fest. I gotta get out more!

On the down side, I think I'm cursed or something. It seems like every time I go out riding, somebody crashes. Yesterday I went up to Sandia Crest east of Albuquerque with another Firebolt and as we're going up the mountain, a CBR600F4 comes down the hill toward us way out of control. He nearly hit the Firebolt ahead of me, lost control trying to get back into his own lane, and then wiped out flipping to the high side and off the shoulder. Well there was a huge ravine there with a 45 degree slope full of rocks. This kid was so lucky...he landed at the base of a tree growing out of the hillside, only about 10 feet down the hill. His bike got hung up on some boulders about 25 feet further down. I'm sure he's got a broken leg below the knee, but that's about it. He was wearing shorts and tennis shoes!

Anyway, I'm going back out today since I'm off of work. Hopefully, I don't see anything I don't want to...

Off to the left of Reindog's last pix was, of all things, an old fashioned manual water pump where we all cooled off after the last 10 or so miles of 1st & 2nd gear meandering on the Killen Trail. It was about 90 degrees and we couldn't move fast enough on the tight trail to evaporate perspiration effectively. Man, that cool water felt good!

The route was split at the Lookout to either take the Killen Trail Adventure route or go back and take the less challenging easy route to Clinton Keith and Tenaja Rd which meets the end of Killen. Perhaps next time we could arrange both legs to meet at the water pump. Wouldn't that be cool? ;)

X1 Roeland, this ride was for you!
