You may notice the dual pipe coming off the head. Apparently the Yamaha XT600 has a 4 valve head? Who would have thought. Not bad for $660. Come to think of it, that is cheaper then the price some guy was quoted for a regular service on his Buell???

I had a '79 TT500 back in the day! Beast of a dirt bike. 95 mph in the dirt and would climb anything it could get ahold of. Kind of cool feeling that if it wouldn't climb a hill it would grab the top and pull it down!

I sold it to a buddy of mine. A year or so later he bought a new rear tire and had it lying about for quite a while. I made him a deal, I mount the new tire if I can ride it for a day. I put the new tire on and rode. Man was he pissed when I brought it back with several knobs missing and it was feathered and cut up from climbing shale and clay mountain sides.

That is a real thumper you got there Koz. Does it have the little window on the end of the cam, or did you end up with the compression release? That is one bike that when hot, stalled, and stuck in the mud, can throw a 200 pound rider clear off of it, if it kicks back when starting it.

Odd... I was looking at some KLR650s, DRZ 400sm, etc today. Everytime I settle on a second bike, I find something else I want...

Oh don't worry, it is not perfect at that price. It needs serious TLC, tires, clutch handle, a serious automatic decompression adjustment for the kickstart, lights in the tail section to be hooked up, and a valve adjustment, not to mention a new rustoleum paintjob. But after that, she will be pretty nice.

I find riding bikes to be fun, but bringing themback from the "almost dead" very rewarding!

Aw yes, had an XT 500 and an XT 550, now have a well farkled DR-650. It is a hoot on and off road. Took it to Tacoma last month to spend weekend with Bob G, just had it at my brothers in Angels Camp, did the DB ride through back country of Oregon last year with Bob and gang. It cuts through traffic like a knife. Way fun.

That was one of the bikes on my shortlist when I found the KLR-250 (even cheaper).

Gear it down, put some cheap but aggressive Kenda Trackmaster knobbies on it, and head off to the woods.

Whats the weight on the thing? Under 300 lbs?

"I had a '79 TT500 back in the day!"

I knew a guy who had a 76 TT500 and tried to race it in a SETRA enduro in Louvale, Georgia. He was about 20 miles in, between checkpoints, when he simply stalled it and could not get it kickstarted again. That bike was a real bitch to hot start... he would have houred out right where he stalled, but some spectators (out in the middle of nowhere) came by and got him push started.

I once DNF'd a hare scrambles on an XR500 because I flooded it during a hot start and could not, for the life of me, get it restarted for the next half hour. Then the engine backfired and rocketted my right knee into the handlebars and my ride was really over.
