I have been offered a 2003 Buell Blast with just over 2500 miles for $1800. I don't know if this is a good deal or not as I really haven't researched the blast much and don't see them around too often. (I have never ridden one) This will be my first road bike and mostly for commuting. As for the bike, it was a training bike for the HD riders edge class. Just seeing what some of the experts think!

Do a some double checking, but as long as it's in good mechanical shape that seems like an excellent price to me. I don't recall hearing about a used Blast going for under $2500 anytime recently that didn't have some severe flaws.

That price is too low, either something is wrong with it or the seller dosen't know whats its worth.

It may have been dumped a bunch but the dealers take care of them.

Yeah, like the other have said, give a good look over. If all looks good, buy it. That is a killer deal if there is nothing really wrong with it.

Traded our 00 blast for $800 in good considtion (10,000miles), at the time the 00/01s were going for $1000-1500.

In an area with several Buell dealers and Rider's Edge courses, the Blast prices are really low.

Buy two at that price. In April I bought my 04 with 1800 miles on it for $2400. The only extra on it was the Vance and Hines exhaust and it had the carb jetted. For a bone stock Blast $1800 is a really good price. You can check Kelly Blue Book for the price in your area but I'll bet dollars to donuts it books for more than $1800!

About 80% of the miles I put on mine are from commuting back and forth to work. The Blast is great as a little commuter bike. I consistently get mileage in the 68 to 70 mpg range. It's fun and easy to ride.

Don't worry about it's former life as an RE bike. These things are as reliable as motorcycles get and the dealers do a pretty good job of maintaining them. For $1800 you need to jump on it.

Brent- sounds like a good deal to me.

If you get it, note that Badweb has an entire Blast-specific section:

Great price, I'd also say to go for it. Around these parts the Craigslist ads for Blasts are always above $2500.

It is a good price, and the Blast is an excellent choice for a first bike (though it sounds like you already know how to ride offroad.)

A note - due to gas prices - as they rise so does the price of a Blast!

The more I look at Blasts, the more I want one as a project bike. With a little time and $$$, I bet it could be made into one bad-ass looking machine.

Custom machined seat rails, longer, wider swingarm for a bigger rear wheel, jecked up rear suspension, clip ons.... oh yeah, I can see it now!

Just checked Kelly Blue book for Blast prices. In the zip code 64118 (Gladstone, Mo) a stock Blast has a retail value of $2550 and a trade in value of $1720. That makes the asking price of $1800 seem pretty good to me. As long as there aren't any obvious problems with the bike you've stumbled on a pretty good deal.

I bought a 2003 Riders Edge Blast for 2.300 18 months ago and put 6,000 miles on it with one mechanical problem that cost me $10 parts and I did it myself in an hour.

It's been stone-cold reliable and gets 60 mpg in the city on a regular basis, 70 mpg on the freeway.

Do it. Even if you put $500 into it (you shouldn't have to if it's fresh out of the RE program) it's worth it.

Great price, great bike. I'm 6'4", been riding for years and with some recent figuring, well over 100k miles, and I still love riding the Blast. They're tanks, you can't kill 'em.

Buy, enjoy, and save tons of gas money : )

If it's a former RE it's probably not been over 30mph. Like everyone said, check it over, ride it and if there is nothing major wrong with it take it to your garage. At that price you can ride it a couple years and get your money back out of it.
