... and we don't have it in stock, it'll have to be ordered." I recently broke my stock lever and figured I'd visit and throw a little business to the local Megalo-moto Super Fun Outdoor Recreation and Motorcycle mart. When the parts guy quoted me that price, I laughed out loud and walked away shaking my head... I decided the visit was coming to an abrupt end. I noticed today the same exact lever for $19.95 from AmericanSportbike, plus Al ships it right to my door. I can't believe the smugness of a business that thinks they can get away with BS like that. Extreme Motorsports in Columbus Georgia pretty much has a stranglehold on Japanese bikes in this area. They sell all the Japanese brands so I guess they feel like they can charge whatever they want for the parts. The only thing extreme about Extreme Motorsports are their prices. So when I get this lever delivered from California to my doorstep in Georgia, I think I'm going back to the Kawasaki parts counter and show the dolt who thought I was dumb enough to pay $50 for a brake lever that I was smart enough to get it for $20 on my own. |

I can pick them up for $5.00 locally used... You could buy a Pazzo for not a whole bunch more... |

Oh, sure, go ahead and get it through 'mail' order, cheaper and with better service - but haven't you heard that if you don't buy locally, there won't be anyone around to outfit your kid's softball team??? Seriously, the local radio station has run PSAs trying to make that point - and I wonder how many other listeners, like me, hear it and mutter to themselves about being able to afford the uniforms themselves with the savings in money, time and aggravation. But I don't hold it against the station. I know they're just sticking up for their customers, and one day soon they're going to get their lunch eaten by Internet-based businesses, too. Meanwhile, the local Triumph/Ducati/KTM dealer got the sale when I wanted a Shoei RF1000 last fall. They had to order it, but they were priced right in line with online order catalog and eBay sellers. Some folks seem to think that the average customer has no other option, or that they can just go on running the shop like Dad did in 1975... |

I actually used go out of my way to shop locally. I've been to some great shops that would sell and mount a rear tire for $150, a good deal even 8 years ago. I can't find places like that now. It's like every motorcycle shop and dealer is trying to make that big score on every transaction, even on levers. $50 for a stock front brake lever? That's some nerve. Especially when anyone can get the same exact lever for $19.95 from a high end shop like American Sport Bike. |
