We have finally got the first prototype carbon fibre bodywork fitted on the project XR1200, and it is starting to look like a complete bike again at last!

Apart from the carbon parts we have made a few changes such as lower, flatter bars, uprated Bitubo rear shocks, black painted engine cases and modified pulley cover. The air scoop on the right side is made around 2" larger to get more into the tiny airbox (compared to the XB)

Hopefully the new exhaust will be ready in the next couple of weeks and then we can try it out in anger.

LOVE the pully cover.

Constructive critisism - maybe try painting the rocker boxes black as well? The top of the engine looks disconnected from the bottom to me.

Sharp bike - I like that tail better than the stock part.

I absolutely agree, and it will be done : ) I painted the lower cases with VHT and depsite a coupe of hours in the oven (much to my wife's annoyance) am not 100% happy with the finish, and I am not sure of it's longevity. I will probably get the rocker covers powder coated instead (along with the instrument backs and a few other minor parts).

The tail is based on the stock part but without the passenger 'pad'.

Is there any room at all to mount an undertail exhaust? Maybe a 2 into 1 or something?

Looks good, not the direction I would have gone but it looks great in application. The black cases are the way that bike should have come. What pipes are you using ?

Matt(Trojan), love it. do cafe racers EVER die in merry old England? Kinda reminds me of my "old school" Sporty I put together back in '75, as seen in my profile, but yours is much better and has all the modern good stuff. Keep up the great work my friend. Bob

Great looking machine I am in lust.
Small question why are the passenger pegs still on ? I thought this was all done to drop 20KG off her not that it matters I was just curious

Looks very cool. I think the pipes will make the bike. I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product.

A set of Buell pushrod tubes would look great on that. One piece, black, blend right in. Or as long as your making carbon, Carbon Buell tubes. Truly turn it into the 21st century sportster.

Looks great.

Good call on swapping out the standard bars! When I rode an XR 1200 in Germany in June, the first thing I noticed was that the standard bars - SUCK!

Didn't keep me from topping it out - after I ran out of gas and got refilled on the demo ride...

That story falls into the Courtism 'remind me to tell you sometime...',

It's too heavy. It's not powerful enough. Harley wouldn't know a sportbike if Don Canet dragged a kneww over their fat, ugly, conceited, arrogant, ignorant faces. Besides, my second counsin's roommate's proctologist's moto-gp bike will rape that POS.

How'd I do?

Very cool bike! I love the fiber, my X1 is all carbon. You've done an exceptional job with fit and finish.

The left side passenger footrests are already off, but the right side one also doubles as the exhaust mount, so until I get the exhaust finished and can make up a lightweight hanger it will have to stay : (

Weight saving so far is 16.5kg, including removing the stock mufflers and catalyst and accounting for the weight of the replacements. That has been achieved just by removing some of the stock components and replacing with lightweight items. The new rear shocks are actually heavier than the stock items, but at least they now have some movement when required : )

There are huge possibilities for saving more weight, but these will be addressed as time goes on.

That's a very good-looking bike Matt - IMO much better than a Monster/Tuono/Corsaro/Brutale etc.

Looking forward to seeing it with the pipes on

Aluminum frame? These guys claim a weight savings up to 80LBS?? Most their stuff is racing oriented..

They also make light weight aluminum sub-frames for a ton of sport bikes..

CBR600 weight 2 lbs/stock is 7 lbs

Soft Tail Frame 18LBS...
