Does anyone have one? I would like to get one but can't seem to find much. I'm guessing a car one won't work too well since it has to look to the front and the rear. I was thinking about a built-in one with a sensor near the rear license plate and another in the front under the headlight, and then hook those to some sort of unit on the bars that will flash a bright light instead of making noise(since it would be hard to hear). Anyone know of such a device? I think the coolest radar detector would be one built into the helmet with headphones and a light to warn you. |

If you really must have a radar detector, the only worth your money is a Valentine 1. Ram mounts makes a nice handle bar perch for it. Personally I find all radar detectors to be of little worth. |

I have run the Passport 8500 X50 for a number of years, on a number of bikes. The 8500 will pick up front and rear w/o any problem. It has a headphone jack for ear plugs etc. Radar Detectors are only as good as the nut behind the handlebars. If you don't use your head, you will get caught. |

About a year ago I had ordered this one to try it out, was on back order (crutchfield) and I ended up canceling it. Made for bikes. http://www.radarbusters.com/radar-detectors/whistl er-radar-detectors/whistlerfuzionradarlaserdetecto r.cfm Either way it is a good site with reviews from a retired cop. I have ordered tech mounts from him twice with no problem. http://www.radarbusters.com/ I rigged my passport with an led light, used it once and decided not to bother. I have collected enough tickets in my youth to have the built in "radar detector feel." They can be useful but as said, you still have to think. If they "instant on" a car ahead of you, ya better be paying attention, if you are the loan target blasting over a hill into a small town.... well. Then there is having the detector if you do get pulled over and how the officer feels about that regardless of legality. |

Yep, instant on is a PITA! Most of the time I use my detector to determine if there is any LEO presence in the area. From talking to a number of LEO's, they find enough people being so blatant that they really don't even try and trap you and just run with their radar on. I find it satisfying to see the real idiots being sooo stupid that they get caught so readily. I had one tailgating me Sunday. My 8500 showed there was a LEO around. This LEO was around to witness him flashing his lights and honking his horn while riding my tail. This cager did this with the marked LEO right behind him! When the LEO lit up his lights I pulled over to the shoulder and the cager just kept on driving down the road! Finally the LEO hit his "Whoop-Whoop" siren and the cage pulled over, a 1/2 mile down the road! I'll just bet there was one heck of a conversation b/t them! In this state there is a Road-rage law and if you flash your lights too many times, honk your horn too many times and drive aggressively, you qualify for a dumb-a$$ award with an appearance notice. |
