I could see Kurt Cobain as one, but probalby not at the top of the list.

I would also add Will Smith.

See in the image of grilled cheese - FRAUDULENTLY sold on Ebay as the Virgin Mary - when it ACTUALLY was Marlene Dietrich. (though others have seen it as Madonna the entertainer)

I've said it before, on this board:
We, as a society, are rapidly becoming Tokyo
life imitating vapid, pseudo-iconic manufactured idols

There is no one.

We celebrate the wealthy, the infamous, and the porno star.

Beyond that you are invisible and irrelevant.

God help us all. : |

I really have had it will television. the reality tv shows, the harrowing tragic tale of instant death from "the next big thing" on the news, insta celebrity for vacuous teen idle heads, global warming, really launch it all, I miss my TV Brick and my MTV (when they actually played...wait for it... VIDEOS!)

You no read good.

"ALL politics aside:"

It wasn't a commentary on his politics but rather a point about what we as a current American society respect and admire.

Those who are really qualified to lead (NOT OBAMA or MCCAIN) fail to even make the attempt to run for office.

It's a sad state when the best we can do out of 300,000,000 people is Obama or McCain.

Given that, Obama's recent behavior has shocked even the staunchest of democrat supporters.

Shame you couldn't debate an issue instead of ATTACKING A PERSON. Guess that makes you the smaller of the two of us.

I really think 2 iconic things from the last 15 years.

The Simpsons
Southpark

I know they are not a single person, but they have had a HUGE impact on gen Y (for that matter everyone)

FYI Steve McQueen will never be replaced.

Nice try, but a post like that is purely political. It would be at least as outrageous were it to have pictured John McCain.
Your little claim of "politics aside" doesn't make it apolitical, it only makes your own slickness show through.
And, NO, my post was no personal attack.
And your statement that neither Obama nor Mccain is qualified to lead (!?!??!) attacks our American electoral system.
If you'd like to attack our American system, start a new thread.

Now, getting back to the original spirit of this fine thread:
Paris goddam Hilton.
I think that, in the future, she'll be viewed as the most iconic figurehead of the past 15 years.

hey, I'd hit it....

Actually . . . and I appreciate the folks who see the use of any politicians name as "political", but I could not agree more. Lee Iacoca, in his "where have all the leaders gone?" essay said it best.

Neither McCain nor Obama has "led" so much as a Burger King staff. I admire McCain's status as a war hero, he truly is but that is not more a qualification to be President than my various degrees are to practice brain surgery.

Obama tells us he has experience as a "neighborhood organizer" and even his staff stands mute when asked to cite one of his accomplishments. He is an excellent speaker.

Nope, to me it's not about politics. Frankly, for me the election was won when Hillary was sent home, I just figure we're stuck with one of the current two and have prepared myself for the wild ride the next 8 years.

Where, indeed, have the leaders gone?

By the way . . if you find one. . . send any spares to Harley-Davidson. Interesting things taking place with the "increased profits every quarter" shine being dulled.

Obama is directly a product of current pop society and it's inability to distinguish between qualification and shiny.

Our electoral system worked perfectly. The people got exactly what they voted for. Why would you think I would attack it?

If you had a brilliant person who was unmatched in his abilities but was unattractive and was uncomfortable speaking in large groups running against someone who was attractive and was a great speaker, our current society would more than likely vote for the attractive candidate.

We are left with two choices, one who has already exposed his non-conservative nature and is working diligently to cover it up and another candidate who the more you dig the less you want to see.

Yep. I'm slick, but at least I'm no hypocrite.

You claimed the "I don't hold anything over from thread to thread, never carry a grudge, every day is a new day" status here when you were complaining that the big bad BadWebbers wer ganging up on you and yet you hold grudges here toward me. I can count the minutes between the time I post and the time you will have a snide retort.

These ARE personal attacks, and you know it.

You might not like what I say, but at least I'm not untruthful.
