Last week I was on vacation in Kauai with my wife and 17 y.o. son.
Last time my wife and I were there, we talked about how much fun the road up Waimea canyon would be on a motorcycle...this time we found out.

Aside from a large selection of Harleys, the rental fleet at Kauai H.D. also includes 1 Uly, and 1 City-X. I have been wanting to ride a Uly, so this made for a perfect opportunity.
The road up Waimea canyon is a narrow and relentlessly twisty ribbon of asphalt that very quickly rises from sea-level to 4000 ft. through some incredible scenery.
Since I had my son on the back, and I have only been up the road a handful of times, I kept the pace fairly conservative. I still found myself grinning and giggling like an idiot.

After Waimea, we spent the rest of the day touring the island, looping down through Po'ipu, then up to Kilauea, Hanalei, and on to the end of the road before turning the bikes back in. We spent about 8 hours in the saddle, and the Uly was comfortable throughout. The stock seat is as comfy as the Corbin on my Firebolt, and the relaxed ergos are easy on the back, knees, and wrists. I was impressed with the bikes touring potential.

Traffic on Kauai can be a bummer at times, but the twisty roads and great scenery make for some fun riding...especially if you can find a gap in traffic.

I was there in April and sat on the same two Buells. I thought they were employee bikes because they looked used, didn't know they'd let you ride them!

The Uly had 16k on it, so it seems to get ridden a lot. The funny thing was, they made me sign an agreement that I would not take it off road. That does limit your exploration a little, still a great way to see the island though.

Actually, they make you sign the same release for all the bikes...including the baggers.}

If they're smart, they'll Google the Slicker and find out that he LOVES to take his CityX off road...heaven forbid they see a picture of his bike.

It finally rained here, there is a vacant lot next to the dealership.... I had to do some 'splainin this morning. Apparently there were tire tracks around all the construction vehicles, a figure eight broady in the infield and a smiley face next to it in true Rooster Form....
They asked if I was riding next door... "Only a little" ; )
