Nice personal attacks, as usual. you should save that for when we meet. The point was, and is, that blacked-out motorcycles are nothing new in the HD lineup. you posted that "maybe it was back in the '40s" Now you're changing your point to "well, OK- I KNEW it was around in the '70s-'90s, but the scoots didn't sell. Any new personal attacks I should expect, to draw attention away from your "point"? |

I'm just glad they didn't follow the people that actually CHROME their Buells! I like black Heck, I'll take the credit for the red and black options for the XB bikes When they introduced the original 9R they only offered white and blue. My question to them was "where's the black or even red?" Yep, it all due to me! Tramp, you are welcome to refute my claim. |

Chrome all you want, any hot rodder will tell you it is purely decorative and heavy. That is the difference between a 32 Hi-boy with a triple set on it for speed and a 50 Merc, slammed, scallopped, flamed, nosed and decked... And you see them both at the rod shows. Both cool, just definitely a different idea of getting down the road. If y'all want to take credit for influencing Buell to add that next item to the bike that they got from yours... Then I get the credit for killin the TT People just dont want to ride HOOLIGANS in the dirt |

"Is there anything you don't know everything about?? Or do you just believe yourself." }that's an unnecessary personal attack that departs from the impetus of the thread. Stick with the topic. frankly, i'm worried about Disco Dave's Deerslayer edition, at this point |

Few of us know more than, say , a dozen other badwebbers. We'd ALL likely get along well, in person. ..including me and Dana. The cheap shots (and I have CERTAINLY used 'em, in the past) don'ty help matters, any more than dave's weird compound-bow front-mount on his Uly, does... |

"Buell does pay attention to what they see on customers bikes." I'm not sure about the Buell factory, but I know that Erik Buell certainly does. When I met him in North Georgia at MBII a few years ago, he commented on how XB owners were dyeing their plastic bodywork instead of painting them and getting some interesting hues that way. Buell has always offered a variety of different color combinations for the frame and bodywork, chasing (and maybe setting) the trend in in graphics and colors. This effort even involved the exhaust pipes; remember the blue X1 pipe? I can't comment on the factory because they don't speak to me about what they see, but I did see John Flickinger (president of Buell) and his cronies wading out in the crowds and gauging reactions to the 1125R and Uly XT models at the demo this year. They also showed some interest in a crashed 1125R and the conversations regarding streetfighter conversion ... portents of the CR. (Message edited by djkaplan on July 23, 2008) |

Blacked out Harleys are nothing new to the H-D line up, but they are new to Buell. As for the notion that Buell saw something they liked on a bike somewhere and incorporated it in their line up... I don't know, but I find it very plausable. |

I know I'm going to regret jumping in here, but... Certainly Buell pays some attention to its current customers. However, methinks it's vital that Buell pay even more attention to its potential customers. To mimic the changes of the current Buell owners is to participate in a form of incest, design-wise in that the resulting products becoming ever more narrowly focused. Buell has to pay attention to what the greater body of motorcycle owners are doing and track with that to a large degree. Harley-Davidson has been very successful at leading the industry in design. There have been missteps, surely, but their record is obvious. Not necessarily so with Buell. Erik and his minions have introduced a significant amount of innovation in their products (or, in some cases, reintroduced it) but we are not seeing the industry falling over itself to copy it. The "black" issue is specious, at best: black has been the default color on motorcycles much longer than any of us has been alive. Personally, I don't like blacked-out motors as they just disappear into the frame. |
