so i needed my new tires mounted and balanced call the local HD dealer(non-Buell) and asked if they could hook me up today and was told they couldn't do it. i asked if they couldn't or wouldn't and he said "they are forbidden by the motor company to touch anything BUELL" exact words. is this true? FORBIDDEN? |

With it having a H/D motor...doubt it. |

I've gotten that treatment at my local HD stealership. I need the same thing, front tire mounted and balanced. Oddly enough the yamaha/suzuki dealership across the street was more than willing. However, they screwed me over when i let them mount the tires on my S2 so I found a local independent sportbike shop. |

I recall hearing something similar a year or so ago. If a dealer doesn't carry Buells they are not allowed to work on them. If they want to make $$ servicing them, they have to sell them. |

When my local HD/B dealer dropped Buell, they put up a sign in the service dept. that they couldn't work on Buells. They have another sign that says that they won't work on customized HDs. |

This MAY be true if they are not a Buell dealer. A tire, is a tire, is a tire. I'm sure they MIGHT have been able to help you out if needed! |

The dealer in question MAY not be authorized to work on Buells. But, if you bought in your wheels (off the bike), I'm sure they would have helped ya out! Most places will mount and balance wheels off the bike if you bring em in. |

That is the reason I prefer to use a good local shop and buy my parts from one of our sponsors. |

i told them i had the wheels off the bike and the new tires with me and they said no...in the end not a problem took them to my nearest buell dealer 25 bucks a tire and done. just figured i'd throw the local guys my business, but i guess not. the trouble i've run into over the last few days awaiting the new tires was finding a dealer that would mount tires that were not purchased from them. |

You should hear them pi$$ and moan about trying to mount a pair of MT-60s on stock rims. You would think I asked them to do brain surgery. |

Oooh, nice Rod. (I've always wanted to say that) Anyway, I had the local KTM guys buy and mount mine. They gave me a good price all around and let me borrow their Super Duke demo bike for three days while they did it. |

I get mine at a local in. shop. buy the tire there and they mount it free, if you take in the wheel. they have very competitve prices. |

I wonder what these HD-only dealerships' policy is if you're stranded away from home (I didn't ask mine I was too mad about them not wanting to work on my bike.) There are HD dealerships all over the country, I'd like to know that if I started having trouble while traveling cross country I could stop at a HD dealership and get a helping hand even if they didn't carry Buells. |

A bead breaker,2 tire irons and twenty minutes of your time and its a done deal. I have 2 HD-Buell dealers, one 60 miles away and another 102 miles distant and neither one is Buell friendly. |

I just mounted a new front tire today on my M-2. I have been doing my own tire work for over 25 years. You don't have to be at the mercy of dealers that don't want your business....and you will save a lot of money in the process. |

the more i read these forums, the more i feel like i got taken for a ride. i went into a local dealer (the only one in the area w/ a good reputation) and as soon as i said the word "Buell", the woman looked at me like i had dogshit on my lips. must be nice to have so much work, you can turn away someone with $$$... too bad they can't come up with a way for an indi shop to become a "Fully Authorized Factory Buell Service and Repair Center." it would take about two heartbeats for me to open a shop. it'a sad enough that i have to let someone else work on my bike, (feels like having a stranger kiss my ol'lady) but it's worse when you know they don't want to do the job. |

Curtis, I broke down in Kentucky last May and the roadside assistance HOG and AMA wanted to tow me to the nearest HD dealership. I had to insist on a Buell dealership, 92 miles away for a tow. I knew that I would have lost another days worth of travel if I went to a HD only shop. Now I can tell you a good one Harley-Davidson of Maryland has a Rider's Edge program and they sell the Blast training bikes when they reach the time limit of use. So I had a new rider who bought one at the same dealership and needed it serviced, you would think they would, but she was given the same answer.. We don't service Buells! I couldn't believe it! K |

That happened to me. I was towed to a H-D dealer (not knowing that they couldnt help me). They couldnt even order parts b/c they werent an "authorized" Buell dealer. So, the next day I had to get yet another tow..... *sigh*..... |

www.nomartirechanger.com as seen at AMA and MotoGP tracks across the country - incl in the official Pirelli tent. They also ride with and sponsor my local track group. I'm saving my pennies |

FWIW, I've used a local Honda shop twice now to throw some new rubber on my Uly, and have no complaints. They were cheaper, faster, closer, (and perhaps more friendly) than Harley. |

I have the same problem with my Local HD dealer. I asked one time and they said no. Have a friend that takes his Busa to a local Honda shop to get his tires. Called them up and they do it all the time on my Uly. If I buy the tire from them they do it all for one price. If I take them the tire it is $50 to install. So I just call them up and drop it off. |

UPDATE 2: took the tires in for the service manager to look at the wheels, and he was less than happy. to my surprise he assumed responsabilty for the damage to both wheels and asked me to bring the tires back when winter comes and they will strip and powdercoat to whatever color i would like(a stand-up move). i even got it in writing. case closed. |

I have better luck getting parts at my local HD shop that is not a Buell dealer than I do at the nearest Buell dealer. They service the Rider's Edge Blasts, so they get me whatever I need. One time I called and talked to the wrong person. He said, "We're not a Buell dealer." I called again on another day and talked to someone who wishes they were a Buell dealer. Sometimes they get trade-ins, and they have to send it to the Buell dealer that sucks. |
