I know H-D helped Buell become what it is today, but they've sure been maintaining red-headed stepchild status, it seems.
I was really disappointed in the dirt program being discarded, too...not because I wanted such a model, but because I'm sure a dual sport or supermoto would eventually follow, and I'm sure they would've kicked ass.
Count me as another disappointed in the cancellation of the dirt program. I was in the market for a dual sport and had to look elsewhere. The bikes and community are great but what can you do. Hopefully it comes back to life.
I think they never should have tried to MX it, it should have been a DS/SM. The KLR 250 has never arena crossed and that bike has been a solid seller and market segment mainstay for over 20 years. There is a nice hole in streetable DS at the 450 level that could be capitalized well on. I know it would have got my money for the purchase. (it still will if they ever turn the project back ON)
I agree Cityxslicker, especially around the 400 displacement. I wonder if it was partly due to the competition. The DS market has really taken off in the past few years or so and keeps growing. There have been many new or redesigned DS bikes recently and they've ranged from cheap to expensive. There's nearly something for everyone already. In a way the market is flooded with them. Alternatives are always good though.
There isnt a road legal 400-500 Dual sport Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda; or an affordable ADV bike in that class. KTM, BMW have offerings but they are as much as the XB's. The only real competition out there would be the Suzuki DRZ400 (a good bike in its own right with a devout following) But what the hell do I know, I am just a guy with dirt bike money burning a hole in my pocket.
The Big Drink is on ON. I need to winter over in Auz or Nz (hell its your summer) You lead the way, I will owe you a drink or two at the end of the trail. I like your commuting style DD
How would the 1125R be more naked? The thing has to have radiators and they won't work in front of the bike so they have to be on the side. Take away the side radiators (pods) and it looks like a firebolt.

front fairing gone would make it the S it's gonna be.
The heads on the new XR1200 are oil-cooled with an oil passage around the exhaust valveseat area. Do you think these type heads will show up on 09 Buells? I would be very surprised if they didn't. It works on BMWs 259 engine.
I want an air cooled 9sx that weighs 280 pounds, and makes 90 HP at the rear wheel. Two versions of suspension, one dirt friendly, one aggressive street friendly.
