I got in last last last night from a ride back from Coeur d'Alene ID.

It was the most grueling ride I have been on.

I left Coeur d'Alene later than I expected (6:30pm) for the long ride back to Seattle. The wind there was quite strong, and of course it was heading east. I had to battle very strong headwinds for most of the trip. The wind was just beating me to death. Trying to maintain lane discipline was quite a challenge.

Coming across the gorge bridge I had to straddle 2 lanes to avoid being pushed into the guard rail.

Finally after about 170 miles of this the wind subsided.
The insects surely didn't though. It was like riding in hail.

So free from the harsh wind I settled into a nice groove of about 80-85 mph. I really didn't feel like facing the pass in total darkness.

While doing this I see in my fuzzy mirrors a lone set of headlights about 1/2 mile back.

After a while those headlights were approaching quick.

Just outside of Ellenburg (on I90) I see the now flashing blue lights.
I pull over figured I am cooked. To my surprise I happened upon the coolest cop I have ever met.
First thing he says to me is "Son, you do know the speed limit is NOT 80, right?"
I didn't lie, nor make any excuses. He took my license to run it.
While gone I took the time to clean my visor. The bugs were so thick I had to use a credit card to scrape them off (ewww).
The officer came back, informed me that he had been pacing me for sometime. Out of curiosity I asked how long.

He said 37 miles...

THIRTY SEVEN MILES!?!?!?! You would think he would have fried me much earlier.
Turns out he rides, and understood the speed. He gave me a nice verbal warning, and let me go.

Before he walked away he commented, "Nice Buell, you should clean it sometime..."

It was clean before I left.

Here is what it looked like when I got home

So I guess I used up my one get out of jail card.

I got nabbed in that speed trap years ago. During daylight they use a cesna to spot and pace you through the traps.
Another reason to ride the dirty bike off road ; ) Welcome back, were the bikinis in the same fine form that they have always been down on CDA beach ?

If I cleaned the thick layers of dead insects from my S2 rat, it would probably fall apart.

Last week I was on the way back to Green Bay from Door County (the thumb part of the Wisconsin map). It was probably 10:00 at night. There were so many bugs I had to stop over and over to clean off my shield. When I got into town I kept smelling this freshly gutted fish smell. I thought it was the Bay which gets a real funk going in summer (I live right near the water). When I got into the house, I realized that the smell was the thousands and thousands of dead bugs on my jacket. I have never smelled anything like it, and I don't really care if I ever do again.

NASTY!

Cool Washington cop though!

Glad you made it back safely and with all your points on your license.

Bill

I had another interesting police experience tonight.

I rolled the bike out into the alley tonight to wash it.

Just as I was starting 2 Seattle officers came around the corner.
One of them seemed ecstatic that I had a Cityx. He knew all about it, about Erik, and about BMC.
He was informing his partner about all the features, when they called over a few other officers.

Before long I had 6 officers in the alley with me. It was nice to see the crack heads avoid me for once.

The first officer mentioned he wanted to get one, but didn't know where.

So of course I told him to AVOID going to Silverdale to visit our resident mud bug

Brian, if a mid thirties hispanic seattle fuzz ends up getting a bike from you, you owe me lunch...

I am sorry you had to wash your bik

I am sorry I had to hose down the alley first before I could stand the smell.

So can we demo the police Uly? I promise I would bring it back with fuel.

There's a picture somewhere of Shred and me after a 638 mile trip that ended coming from Tennessee down 129 to Suches, the bugs were everywhere! We had to stop a few time to wipe the bugs just so we could see. Our leathers had changed from black to bug guts.
What a fun ride

it is, smack him on the top of his head and his skull lights up. and in the fun vain of tomigachi or furbi, if you put two of them facing each other, and light them off, they will flash at each other endlessly. Great fun.
My nephew gave it to me. Apparently when kids have birthday parties now, there are goodie bags for those that show up.
(His mom shiat when he opened a box with a motorcycle helmet in it for him) Hell I started riding at 5, I think he is ready at 8.

Hey Citysxlicker, we were talking about you this past week. We did 1765 miles thru Colo last week and got caught in some rain and did some off road rides and BOY, did our bikes get dirty. Rode for 6 days before we had a chance to get them clean. There were bugs everywhere and more. Would get our face shields clean and then WHAP, more bugs.

Anyway it was a blast: )

I grew up back there, from 5-8, learned to scoot on an cub50 then an XR75. I am sure it is all developed now, but at the end of Oroblancho in Colorado Springs there was the most damn righteous dirt pit, mud bowl and table top known . Ah that is where I broke my leg, and an ankle.
Got in trouble riding the bike to school via the flood control ditches. eh, I was told to stay off the road, maybe that is where it all started.

Yea, kinda like telling a kid to stay between the lines.....NOT

Hey take a look in the Storm fronts Colo pictures section. I just posted a few of the pictures we took on our trip. Unfortunately, don't have any of the DIRTY pictures of the bikes.

And, yea, the Springs area has definitely grown. I've been in Castle Rock for the past 19 years and it just isn't the same. TOO BIG
