I was going to ride my BMW but alas I've been waiting 3 weeks for a carb needle from Germany.

I couldn't ride (bicycle or moto) because I had to make the horrible trip from Italy to Germany in the car. I'd be riding the Uly if the base post office hadn't misplaced my box full of parts!! I'm sitting here this evening looking at the Zugspitz (had to work until 1 p.m.) and had a couple of really good beers as well. Did you know that this years Oktoberfest beer is already available in the local (bavarian) Gausthaus!!! Damn good stuff!!

Court, I wish you would've said something about needing the BMW part, I would've picked it up for you but you didn't know I was headed this way either. If you get me the P/N I'll see if I can find it for you.

I have a carb sitting on my shelf from a 1980's series honda. Lots of yellow cracking plastic, and holes where parts used to go, but it ran the KLR pretty well.

Want me to ship it? Think how much fun it would be to offend the BMW purists everywhere!

Nah . . . but it is funny . . .having heard folks concerns about Buell dealers, to have paid $1,534 to get the bike gone through and then, in the midst of doing some serious riding, have it go kapoot.

I took it in . . . waited 3 weeks. . . had heard nothing and called.

They told me they were looking for the "would start, run for a minute and ie" cause and while they were doing that they dropped a needle out of one of the carbs.

They couldn't find the needle and the next day went to move the bike out of the way.

The crunching sound was the needle going thru the chain/sprocket. Another reason I miss my belt.

So they ordered the needle and are telling me it could be a couple weeks from Germany.

I was riding every day sort of as a therapy following the loss of my Sister and kapow. . .

That Thrust Blue XT is looking pretty good right now . . . .

I'm calling today to have my Buell shipped from Colorado to. I need a reliable bike and just can't count on the BMW, I need a Buell.

Are you in Garmish (sp?). I spent 2 weeks there when I was on deployment back in 91.
Right at Christmas time... god I loved that place.}

Can't ride...my bike doesn't trip the gate in the downtown Tampa parking garage. I'm stuck there until Sept.

Yes, I'm in Garmisch at the Armed Forces Recreation Center The Edelweiss Lodge. It was remodeled a few years back and is pretty nice. Lots of guys/gals here right now that are on R+R from the Desert. I may come back up here for the 2nd Annual "Ride the Alps" at the end of August but I have to see if I can get the time off.}

Court; just do it! You (of all people) should know how good riding one will feel. You also know how addictive it will become.
If it would help, I'll gladly ride my XT down to New York City and let you take it for a ride.

Ok Funny story time..

So last night I park the bike outside my house rather than in my shed, to save time in the morning... But I still lock my forks (just to be on the safe side). I get up this morning get my gear on head out the door, and CLICK CLICK CLICK!!! WTF!!!???!!

I left the bike in Park all night.. THAT is the worst place for that selection right after the fork lock setting.. so needless to say today was National ride the Charger to work day for me... SUCKS!

"I need a reliable bike and just can't count on the BMW, I need a Buell. "

Sounds like a line from an advertisement or a tagline on a billboard. Something for the 2009 advertising campaign maybe?????

I can picture the billboard now, right at the NYC exit for the BMW dealership, Court pictured playing his guitar at the Buell Homecoming, Erik in the background, and that tagline quoted across the top:
"I need a reliable bike and just can't count on the BMW, I need a Buell. "
Anybody handy with photoshop?

Since the recent creep to 4 bucks a gal it's been pretty cool to see all the older bikes on the road-skinny tires are cool!

Way back in the day, 1982 to be exact, I was allowed to shine the Bad Tolz autobahn while learning how to be a buck SGT. Legs legs, everywhere legs -- good guys though : )

Court... if I recall correctly, that ain't a REAL BMW, it's an Aprilia with BMW badging...

Unless you got something new I don't know about.

It's the F650 that I bought my wife at the IMS show in 1999.

Really a pretty neat bike with a lot of cute antiquated things like a chain, carbs, and so forth.

I've always had a hankering for an RS but this has allowed me a glimpse at the BMW parts situation.

Ah, so the truth comes out. *She* has been waiting for a carb needle for many weeks....I always suspected she was the rider in the family, nevermind all the photographic evidence to the contrary

FWIW, I get parts for my BMW considerably faster than I get parts for my Buell. 9 times out of 10, the part for the BMW is actually in stock (imagine that).

On the other hand, have you seen the horror stories of Aprilia owners looking for parts? BMW probably doesn't have it much easier getting parts for their sourced bikes as the Aprilia dealer network has getting parts for their customers. It's the one thing that prevented me from considering the Futura when it was available. Damned shame, because I thought that thing was GORGEOUS, and it fit me perfectly.

I wish that it was a few degrees hotter today, if only to make my commute through the "dirty South End" of Toledo that much more enjoyable. I saw some guy riding a bicycle down the street this morning sitting on his handlebars pedaling backwards. He was grinning like a jackass eating thistles.

Man they ought to flush this town every five years or so.....

jaimec-
ever since they began distribution of the f650 (late '96, back when I was working for BMW/NA, mc group), bmw has had a near-flawless parts distribution deal w/aprilia for their f650 components- we used to joke about how, in many cases, it was a more reliable flow than that of their german parts system- bear i mind it's still classified, in lightspeed, by bmw categorization, etc.
bmw's buying power allowed them generous overstock on wera items associated with these mills.
Hey, BD- at least at bad tolz nobody had to do AM PT among black hats and jake, to the croonings of sgt. barry sadler... legs or no legs, all around.
weird to see legs tabbed otherwise, ain't it?

They closed the local Cincinnati BMW bike dealer. I think the nearest one is now like 90 miles away from either Dayton or Cincinnati, which is insanity.

There are probably 4 Buell dealers in that same radius, and two or three of them are even pretty good ; )

Reep-
If you live in Ohio, you've got the best non-factory authorized BMW parts dealer in North America nearby- "Re-psycle BMW" of Lithopoulis, Ohio.
They took great care of me when i was running an indy shop, way back in the day, and I used them frequently when i was cervix-managing at a BMW dealership, and BMW/NA couldn't get us the parts in a timely fashion.
i can't say enough good things about them, and if they still do repair, you'll find far superior techs, there, than at most dealerships...

The F650, for what it's worth, is a fabulous bike in spite of some of it's "character" and the Chain Gang is the Badweb equivalent in terms of top-notch support.

I've been struggling with several things lately and have found riding and walking 5 miles a day good therapy. I am REALLY missing the bike after riding several hundred miles daily.

I was about to rent one and yesterday my wife told me "quit fooling yourself about riding your Buell back from CO and have it shipped".

Grrrrrrr. . . . I'd put her in her place but don't want to loose the use of her bike or get my butt kicked.

: )

The XT is looking like a powerful lure . . .
