http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080714/bs_nm/anheuser _inbev_dc

So the news just came in. It looks like Anheuser-Busch has agreed to accept the $70.00 per share offer most recently made by Inbev. Hmmmmm. What language do they speak in Belgium? Isn't it french? That's sort of weird, a bunch of frenchmen owning Budweiser. What are you guy's going to drink now that Budweiser is owned by a bunch of cheese eaters? Miller High Life??? LOL!!! First Buell lets a bunch of french Canadians build a new Rotax engine and now Budweiser is selling out to Inbev. Inbev is notorious for cost cutting and chopping corporate duplication when ever it acquires a new brewer so it will be interesting to see how many jobs will be cut in the states due to this merger. About 10 years ago Inbev bought out Labatt's here in Canada and immediately shut some of Labatt's breweries after the deal had closed. Of course prior to the takeover Inbev stated that no jobs would be lost. I am sure the same thing will happend in the states. Isn't globalization great!!! I'm glad you American's worked so hard to bring it to the world.

With the U.S. dollar tanking so hard and the U.S. stock market diving down into bear territory I wonder how many more foreign companies will be buying out U.S. blue chips in the next year or two.

Why does stuff like this happen? Was Bud in trouble.......if so, why would another company be able to make a go of it? IS this the end of Miss Bud and the Clydesdale tour show? I don't get it.......I just don't get it............

enjoy!

Miller's already owned by South African Breweries, so switching to that won't help.

You may want to czech your facts, Toronto:

True "Budweiser" is a Czech company, whose name was bootlegged by a German guy in the 19th century, when he started an American brewery.

"Budweiser" is the German name for "Budvar", which means, from "Budovice" or, in German, "Budweis".

The German who bootlegged the "Budweiser" name quickly trademrked it, here in the States, so that the genuine Budweiser couldn't be distributed, here.

AB had no more right to the name than do the Belgians. Not sure how or why their French language factors into the equation (see OP).

Should you desire a taste of the far-superior REAL Budweiser, here in North America, you can find it at better Beer distributors, labeled as "Czechvar"...
Of course, the home-version stuff is far better than the over-pasteurized export stuff, although, these days, EU membership has seriously degraded the quality of Czech (and Polish, and Slovak) beers, bringing an homegnic, hoppy, aerobic Co2 bitterness to them.

AB, incidentally, bought Rolling Rock a year ago, and has taken that label, which represented a purity of American beer that paralleled that of Beck's, to sink to another light, watery AB product....a sort of Bud Light in a green bottle.
For Pennsylvanians, this insulting slap in the face marked a greater injustice to the taste buds than could the Belgian purchase of pseudoBud.
Thankfully, when one visits Pennsylvania, one can still taste true, spring water based
pure brews that represent the preglobalist flavour of real America.
PS- don't even
try to bash Belgian brews.....

Belgium speaks Flemish (Dutch), French or German (I think) depending on where you are in the country.

Triple language labels anyone (quad if we include english)?

Stick to good beer like Guinness!

I envy the folks up in WI. My wife is in love with Spotted Cow....and we can't get it down here in MD : ( If anyone up there feels like helping out, I can send an address and a paypal to get some mailed down!

For a PA beer (that's thankfully exported across state lines, lol) we tend towards Yuengling. Nice and light, tastes great ICE cold... my winter beer is Guinness since it's better not-so-cold.

I'm in the same boat with the Spotted Cow. Wife has family in WI that occasionally visits and stocks us up, but it's delicious and goes quick! They also bring (Stevens) Point brews (Nude Beach and various others...) that we trade for some of the more unusual New Belgium stuff that we get in CO.
My kids love the sodas, and say that the Point root beer KILLS the Weinhard's!

Any other WI brews that we should sample or ask for? We can get New Belgium, O'Dells, Breckenridge and a bunch of others for tradin'!

I like Bud. It's always my domestic beer of choice. Not the light Bud, but I'll drink that too.

Hey, Toronto_S3

If the Belgian's are French because of their language (although it's one of 3 as it has already been pointed out), then you lot are English!!

Elf> my father-in-law likes Berghoff, the darker, the better. i'd suggest the "sample case" put out by Capitol Brewery, it's two bottles each of some of their better brews. the "half-caff/light-latte" gang seems to like New Glarus Brewery beers, and i still have fond memories of my 1st case of Point.

and if you can find it, (i can't, but i think my bro-in law might) there is somebody up here making beer out of cheese. i sh!t you not.

Leinie's is/was a good WI beer that has started to seep over this way much more. They got rid of the northwoods in favor of all the fruity stuff but the original is still a good choice.
I second that sierra nevada call...

American beer is like making love in a canoe... F**king close to water.

My Air Force buddy brought back some beer from Germany, ruined domestic beer for me once and for all.
