Well, besides my own Lightning Long, I saw a barricade orange Ulysses and a red X1 Lightning at the halfway point in East Durham. Anybody here? Unfortunately, I didn't see any other Buells. Don't understand why, the event is practically tailor made for our bikes!

First time I have ever heard of the Ramapo 500. What is it?

I've mentioned it several times here over the past couple of years. It is a two-day, 500 mile road rally. 250 miles a day over backroads with a camp out inbetween. Entry fee includes the camping space, dinner the first night and breakfast the second morning. They usually have a band but most people just want to pass out in their tents after riding. It is held rain or shine (but if it's raining on Day 1, I pass... I hate setting up a tent in the rain).

Anyone who makes the end site on the second day before a specific time gets a "Finisher's Patch." It's GREAT fun, and you see all KINDS of bikes on it (though I suspect more than a few just head straight to the mid-point the first day, and straight back to the end site the second day).

It is always held in mid-July, usually the third weekend but this year, due to a scheduling conflict at the mid-point site it was moved to the second weekend. Sign up is limited to 400 riders, so pre-registration is suggested (and you save $10 if you do). This was the 32nd year of the Ramapo 500 so it's been going on for quite some time.

This is the flyer for this past weekend's event: http://www.ramapomc.org/RAMAPO08.pdf

The hosting club's website is http://www.ramapomc.org/

I hope I see more Buells next year!

For the TRULY masochistic, the Ramapo Motorcycle Club hosts the annual Crotona Midnight Run. This is a timed event run in FEBRUARY that starts at midnight and is held regardless of the weather. It was only cancelled ONCE in its entire history and that was two years ago when a blizzard buried the region under two feet of snow. Even so, I understand a couple of die-hards showed up at the sign-up point. No idea how they even got there.
