I may not agree with them all of the time. I understand their job is to keep the public safe and if enforcing laws allows them to fine people as punishment to finance the enforcement of laws... great.

I do DEEPLY respect police officers and would like to be one someday so I go out of my way to be courteous even when I'm getting screwed. I figure if I'm an ass, I'll get a ticket. If I'm nice, I might get out. I'd rather take my chances being nice.

"It also doesn't sound like you were at all rude, so it would have been nice if he'd have let you slide."

Everyone can't slide, even if they are nice... Lotta things come into play before the pen hits the paper. Sometimes it is simple, sometimes not.

Yep- I think I'm aware of this....

....hence my statement that it would have been nice, and not any thing else, such as "he shoulda", etc.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

I try to keep my ticket count to less than 4 per year.

Right now, I'm at 3. First was removed for attending driving school. Second was reduced to one over. Waiting to pay my most recent, 93 in a 70.

You just want to make sure to keep your point count under 12 (in TN at least).

Been to the 8 hour driver's edge course. I don't recommend it.

I almost always go to court for local tickets. I always request driver's school.

My mother was once clocked at 127mph in a Dodge Charger in 1968. The Dodge dealership guarenteed the car could do 140mph. She was finding out if it was true before she got stopped.

She drives an E500 Mercedes now... another rocketship. I think I got my need for speed from her side of the family.

I ran into the officer at the gas station this morning. He and another officer were getting coffee. We talked for a couple minutes and the subject of not stopping came up. The Deputy (not the one who issued the ticket) wanted to know why I didn't run. I stated that I wasn't aware that I was speeding so when I saw the lights, I assumed they were meant for someone else. Not to mention, I have more respect than to run from a cop...

I have had only one ticket (Speeding or otherwise) in the past 25 years, it was reduced immediately to a non-mover and dismissed at trial.

My driver's best friend ran from the police this past weekend on I-4 heading back to Orlando. Apparently he had been seen doing at least 140 from the air and rolled up on a group of FHP troopers just before the exit to 27.

He ran and upon exiting I-4 on to 27 lost control on the ramp at 100 and totaled the bike. I guess he only broke his hand thanks to the fact he was wearing his gear.

Once released from the hospital he was taken into custody and spent the night in jail.

He's in a world of trouble I guess. The only reason they didn't confiscate his bike was because it was totaled.

We'll see what happens next....

Here in Ontario, Canada 50kph over the limit (about 30mph) is considered "street racing" and nets you a one week roadside suspension, vehicle impound and a $10,000 fine. Doing a wheelie or stunting falls into the same category and nets the same penalties. This past weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police impounded 125 vehicles for "street racing".
I was also recently informed that 75kph (45mph) over the limit will get you a lifetime driving suspension. Not sure about that one, though it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.
These new laws have totally slowed me down in the car and also have me thinking about giving up street motorcycles. It's too easy to be 50 kph over and I really couldn't afford the fine.

When you get on some of the major highways here there are huge signs that say:

150 KM/H= $10,000 FINE

The chief of the OPP has made speeding his number one priority. He's a firm believer that speed kills.

OPP CHIEF = SCHMUCK!
