I mean, why NOT engage in speculation in another thread?

Everything I've heard has been the XB platform will be gone by 10. Aircooled will remain, but using a new frame. Personally, I'd like to see a tuber again.

I also heard rumors that the Blast may be discontinued, why? no clue. Maybe a liquid cooled small cc bike? I dunno.

We'll probably see a new bike or two using Rotax motors. I wouldn't be surprised to see something unveiled at the 25th Homecoming.

Speculating is fun.

An XB12M Cyclone. Carbureted engine, standard (not upside down) forks with a standard bike seating position. Cost around $8,000...

And Bold! New! Graphics! for the rest of the lineup.

I'm hoping they are all 5'3" and very curvy, I'm tired of looking at the 6' tall ones built like a 2X4.

: )

I'd question (mostly out of ignorance) how much longer the Blast can last with a carb. If it must be injected to move forward, I suppose there would be a few options:

* Stop making it
* Change as little as possible in the engine / bike while still bringing FI into the equation
* As long as you need to re-certify the bike, maybe this is the time for the XB style head, cams, etc or a displacement change (likely just a longer stroke)

Anyone have any ideas on what the implications of a carbed bike are in the coming years?

Wonder how the new racing rules will guide homologation production.

Seems the new 600cc class is going to be the focus based upon the motorcycle mags and new racing management.

What would the V-Twin rules be for the smaller racer? 800cc?

Would mean a smaller Helicon variant wouldn't it?

"Stand by for the all new darker black!"

You mean Villan Black and Designer Black didn't cut it? This means I'll have to take a Sharpie to my silver wheels.

I have, from an unimpeachable source, there is be tuber introduced at home coming and this is the power plant. The industry will BUBble over with this set up.

I enjoyed that added touch at last year's Homecoming. I hope they continue to do so because who better to let see new models but Buell's number one fans !!

I think that the turn signals and mirrors will mess with the aeros and sleek looks though.

With freakin' gas prices going the way they are, a fuel injected Blast might not be a bad idea. Selling them to a North American market clearly divided between sportbike and cruiser could be the tough sell, especially in light of the fact that the Blast has this image of a beginners bike (and a damn fine one). Perhaps by using some of the tooling already in use on the XR1200; a tube frame, aluminum swingarm, conventional rear shocks, etc., a great handling, fine looking machine in more of the Standard/Brit tradition could be built, attracting the attention of buyers who want a machine that is neither sportbike or a traditional, heavy cruiser. I realize that in some respects, such a bike might be a bit of a step backwards, but Standards, and the ergonomics and practicality that goes with them, are a style of machine that can appeal to someone with no aspirations of being a famous knee dragger or leather clad badass. Fuel injection and XB style cylinder head design would go a long way in further improving power and economy, and coupled with a revised bore/stroke combination, (I'd like to see 3.625"/3.625"), the thing would have enough power to do anything the average rider would ever want to do, and look real sweet doing it. Think of it, wire wheels, in the deepest shade of Nonemore Black, come on, isn't there some guy at BMC that has a Velocette that he really likes?

Now that would be hot! A Blast/Cafe Racer. I'd have to buy one of those myself. Something about thumper cafe racers that get my blood going.

uh, that would be a certain E. Buell. But he sold the Velo some time ago. Like about 30 years ago.

I sold mine too. It was a Truxton 500. Definitely should have kept that one, that's for sure.

Buell already has the 450cc engines from the canceled dirtbike program. So, there will probably be a "Blast" type bike with the new engine.

Heck, I rode a Blast to an event across town today and back. I forgot how damn fun those things are!! Although, at 6'4", I *was* sitting on the passenger seat... I'm even thinking about one now, strictly for commuting. Custom seat (back half only; more tank up front since I'm so tall), either mini-apes or clubmans, rearsets...could be a hoot.

I'd look for a stronger version of the Helicon (maybe). An EFI Blast would be cool too...but I wonder how they'd do it. Since you don't need a "manifold" to feed 2 different cylinders, I'd think a direct-injection setup would be awesome. And efficient. And "green". Hmmm....

A 450cc Blast with EFI would get me back in the showroom.
