Dave,

I'll be competing in my first Battletrax at Suburban Harley on Saturday. I have quite a bit of experience competing in SCCA Solo II (autocross) but never anything on two wheels. Watched the event at Hal's a few weeks ago. That was a small lot, very tight. Should be more room at Suburban. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you guys Saturday. I'll be the guy on the black Blast with training wheels. BTW, I work with fast guy Shane and he showed me where he hid the nitrous bottle on his S3.

He is gonna show up in cut off shorts, a wife beater tank top one of those hard hats that holds two beers.

And using the purple Dyna as a golf cart! He'll fire it up around the putting green. Somebody will be yelling, "I'm putting here, you son of a bitch!"

Dano...Looking forward to meeting you (again?) on Saturday. What are you running autocross in? I have a Miata that I had set up to run and I never got around to it due to moving back to WI. Can't wait to glean some info from you.

Hey Dan, quit revealing my secrets..HA HA. No secrets, just having a great time doing the thing I like the most. Riding on two (sometimes one) wheels.

Anyone interested in motorcycle hill climbing?
Sept. 28th (Sunday) I will be climbing up the biggest hill in the mid west. It is 500 feet and located just south of Platteville on HWY 151, south west Wisconsin. If someone is daring enough, or crazy enough, I have my old climber for sale and someone could try it out. Email me for details and maybe we can make it happen.

Nevco1,

I ran a 1988 Fiero in H Stock. It didn't have a ton of HP, but it handled well. I "retired" from autocross about 2 years ago. It became too much like work to show up at 7:00 am (I was Chief of Tech) and not leave until 5:00 pm. Total seat time: Less than 6 minutes (3 runs in the morning and 3 runs in the afternoon). Battletrax gives you much more seat time. (There is no practice in autocross, only a course walk. All of your runs count.) Don't get me wrong, autocross is a great activity and greatly increased my driving skill. If you feel the need for higher speeds, try Solo I. These take place at a track like Blackhawk. Much more expensive than Solo II (entry fees are about $100) and the consequences for blowing a corner are more severe than knocking over a few cones.

Dano...Thanks for the info. Is good to get a little conviction in that I made a good decision not to play autocross.

Besides the move, the thing that concerned me was when I learned the Miata class was launching near redline. I just wanted to have some fun, not kill my only car! LOL

Oh well, at least I ended up with a car that really loves the twisties!

Nevco1,

Do you remember a guy at the Hal's Battletrax who ran the red CBR600F3? His name is Todd and he has been racing a 1992 Miata in Solo II for a few years. He works with Shane and I. He's very fast and pounds that car mercilessly, but his clutch or tranny recently went TU. I'm not sure if Todd is coming to Suburban because he has a track day scheduled for Sunday. Looking forward to meeting you as well on Sat.

Yep, sure do remember Todd. Well, at least his runs. I was the bonehead waving the checkered flag and enjoyed studying the different techniques.

Am looking forward to learning more about autocross and other local events from you guys.

I'll take this weather over that 95 deg & humid crap.

BTW Bill, I changed the leaky valve cover gasket...still gotta get the other side. No more Diarrhea:D Damn truck was thinking it was Buell by marking its spot everywhere. And why do they have to make everything so stinkin hard to work on? Had to pull the air conditioning compressor completely out in order to get the cover off.

Hey; I enjoyed that 95 deg and humid crap. It beats the hell outta 8 deg and 12 inches of snow! Besides, I wouldn't have enjoyed the Cokes at Hooters as much, if I wasn't so thirsty.

Have you still got it? I never did get to see it. The cokes were'nt the only things I enjoyed at Hooters; the burger was pretty good, too.

Doug and Dave from Waterloo HD/BMC and the staff from Suburban HD/BMC put on one heck of a nice party today at the BattleTrax event.

Great course, great food, great comraderie and lots of female competitors (Think the Boyz will have some serious competition as these gals were great!)

What more could you expect from a team like this. Too bad it was the last event of the season in this neck of the woods. Oh well, can't wait for next season.

had a great time myself at the golf outing. My head is a little fuzzy right now & its takin forever to type this....open bar & beer cart. Biggest damn rum & cokes I ever had..6 shots in one.

Didnt shoot too bad either, ended up with an 83. That course is not very challenging. I sure as hell wouldnt pay to play there.

Yes, this boy was beat by a female competitor by .01 second. Still, I have a nice 3rd place plaque (is that the stuff they scrape off your teeth?) Thanks to Doug and Dave and all the workers for putting on a great event. I learned a lot, and will be back for more next year. Too bad my best runs were in the practice session (I believe they call that choking).

Dyna,

Jerry...Sweeped the SE Wisconsin Title in his class. Actually, it was the smoothest I have seen Jerry run this year. He was really on top of his game and cruisin' for the Title!!!

However, next year between Dano and the others (read: really nice female personages) he may be in trouble. Watch out for the Uke's (me thinks that is where they were from) group of females...they ride awesome!!!LOL

CJ did some really good laps on a borrowed Blast during the open session after the awards (and a lot of teasing) were given out. Best watch out for her next year after she gets some mileage on her XB9SL. That girl is determined!

Shane took his class as well. Granted he didn't have to work at it compared to the other venues. LOL Nice thing is he brought 3 new folks into the BattleTrax fold. Oh yeah, he didn't have to work at it because he couldn't. Dave and Doug created a course that would have made Reg shudder! LOL

MikeJ was what I considered the smoothest rider of the day and Bomber kept protesting he wanted and AARP class. What class does the X1 run in? I get the feeling that if I had pushed the scoot through the course I would have got a certificate! Still chicken though. Figure if I am going to toss it down, I might as well go too. None of this embarrassing death thing.

As MC, Dave did a splendid job. He kept us all informed and entertained in light of a few equipment malfunctions. On the other hand, as starter, Doug gave out way too many tips. Good grief you should have seen the times go down as the day wore on!

Don't bother trying to run with Doug from Waterloo, not worth the time and gas. Just hand him the certificate and enjoy the rest of your day!

The Folks from Suburban were outstanding. All were absolutely the best. Friendly, personable, joined right it whether Buellers or Baggers. A real family feeling not to mention an old style dealership where you don't feel intimidated by the Nieman Marcus format. Just real folks and they fill that bill nicely.

If you get the chance question Bomber and LawnBoy about the "Out-of-State" entry fees. LMAO Damn, I feel lucky in that department. Nothing we aren't almost all guilty of. It is just they got singled out! Yuck!

Lastly, the MotoRetards took top honors as usual. A few of the guys from Suburban dug out their off road bikes and gave them fits, but slicks win over knobbies. Was really impressed with the Suburban guys. No wipe outs and no ripped out knobs in my teeth! Bet they would be contenders with the right tires.

Whew...Off to bed. The nap was good but a full night sounds...Oh well, never mind.

Again, a special thanks to all for a very special effort for the seasons finale.
