Whats a good boot that I can stand in all day on hot asphalt and teach BRC/Riders Edge classes? My feet and knees are killing me after a weekend of putting 12 more riders on the road. I currently have a set of Red Wing Worx and they don't work. I put inserts in them to help and that didn't help.... so.... any suggestions? They need to be over the ankle so I can ride with them and cost effective.... | ||

on person posted if you get a boot that you can walk in you don't want to be riding in them or something to that effect. berkinstock have inserts that will make your feet feel alot better. i must have a heel spur and when i was working at the hospital a few years ago they helped out quite a bit for all the walking i had to do. pricey but for what you'll pay in another pair of boots that you can put in any other boots that you have then it's worth it. | ||

My feet are a mess from years of athlete's foot with football. Believe it or not Brahma's steel toe boot from Wal-mart is the most comfortable boot I've found. They are comfortable to ride in and with building A/V and broadcast system, I'm up and down ladders all day. My feet feel fine at the end of the day. | ||

My alpinestar gore tex street boots are awesome. They are the web or effex boots. http://www.alpinestars.com/Effex_Goretex_Boot/pd/np/113/p/233005.html I wear them all the time, if anything they may get a little hot, but no hotter than any other non vented boot. Walked miles in them in Daytona and just in general wear. I still have my first pair that I bought in 2000 and just bought a new pair to replace them this year. I have spent a lot of time in my Aerostich Combat Tour Lites which are essentially a simpler looking version of the Sidi Discovery's very comfortable boots once they are broken in. I even where mine for work occasionally they are so low profile | ||

I teach in my AGV Cascade touring boots, I put Knee Pain insoles in them because I lost the originals. They have been very comfortable on the range. The only problem I have is in the Heat we had this weekend they don't breathe enough. I'm looking for a vented boot for Summer Range classes. Thinking about some of the ICON gear. | ||

I swear by wolverine steel-toes with dura-shocks soles. These are pricy but the last pair I had lasted almost 3 years of daily use. I cheat. On the range I wear a pair of leather, high-top Reebok basketball shoes and carry them to the class in a saddlebag on the Blast. I just change shoes before we crank up and then change back (new socks, too) before I leave. Makes the arthritis in both feet a lot happier after six to eight hours. | ||

I really like my Altama. Good arch support which is not optional for me. They are also very light. They weigh about 1/2 what cowboy boots weigh. They also they breath very well. At 50 mph on the bike, I can feel the wind on my ankles. I they look nice enough I can wear mine in the office too. | ||

IMO steel toes are terrible for outdoors, in the summer they cook your toes, in the winter they freeze em. Wolf-go over to wildman's/zz boots. They have more boots(and other fun stuff) than you can think of. I like georgia boots-not the ones sold in QFandF. The soles even lasted through my rotador trying to eat them, and the leather lasts forever too. they are still work boots, and thus they are heavy and made in china  I've worn redwings for a couple of years and they don't compare to the good georgia's. | ||

+1 on the Magnum Stealth. I've tried 'em all on the asphalt doing Rider's Edge classes, and they are the best by far. They hold up quite well also. I can get about 8 months of 3 to 4 classes a month on them. | ||

Yeah - I live in 'em. Pair of Rev-it leather jeans and I'm comfortable anywhere. Take a week to break in, but then they are like slippers. :-)  | ||

I used to wear Magnums, but they wear out too quickly for me and aren't able to have the sole replaced. I have been wearing Matterhorn Fort Lewis model boots (same as Danner, but a little less $$) at work and on the bike for the last 5 years. They are waterproof and the soles can be replaced. I stand a LOT and they are comfy all year long. They are a little warm in summer, but not to the point of being uncomfortable. | ||

Herman Survivors, Kodiak. With $8.00 Fox River 80% wool socks, from the Mill End store in Clare, Michigan. The wool keeps your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer and last for a very long time if you treat them right. | ||

I'm for the Danner's. I've had the same pair for 8 years now. Also, if you wear a part of the boot out, you can send them in for repair/replace instead of buying a completely new pair. | ||

Wolf: I use two different pair per weekend. It seems to help to change up each day. I rotate through three different brands: Red Wing, Merrell and Danner. The Red Wings are a plain leather work boot with a translucent urethane sole. I'm not sure of the model name. The Danners and Merrells are both hiking boots that are cooler in hot weather as they are composite construction with both leather and gore tex fabric panels. My favorites for teaching are the Merrells as they seem the lightest. Rotating daily seems to work well as each boot seems to have different "hot spots". It also helps to bring a pair of sneakers and fresh socks for when you go back into the classroom in the afternoon when you are done on the range. If you don't have the space on your bike you can just take the boots off when you are back inside. Dave | ||
