ActuallEEEEEEEE:

The determination is made by circumstance: when a DOT sticker presents on an "obvious" non-DOT brain bucket, weekend-nazi chrome dome, cause is then indicated.

Please don't tell me that anyone here is incapable of telling the difference.

I ride LI plenty , and have been duly 'profiled' while riding in and out of the gates of a clubhouse in Hempstead, where feds snapped shots of everyone going in and out.
At a defense fund rally which I worked, back in '02 just a few miles North of hammer's precinct, the NYS troops stopped everyone who went in or out, and issued an incredible number of expensive summonses....
they put advance word out, so as to dissuade participation: economic pressure.
They also rec'd an SLA injunction to prohibit the proprietors of the establishment from serving alcohol on that day, so as to compel, through economic hardship, the establishment to cancel the defense fund rally.
The establishment didn't cancel, it was a dry event, and funds were raised.
A good time was had by all, despite the fact that nearly every rider was written for some violation or another.
We were pissed off, but nobody pissed and moaned about 'profiling'.

Who is Larry? He is the Chairman of the New York State Motorcycle Political Action Committee. He spends his time tirelessly lobbying the legislature in Albany for fair motorcycle legislation. He also keeps us apprised of any legislation which may harm the NYS motorcycling community so that WE can get on the phone with our Assemblymen and Senators to get it cut off at the knees ASAP. THAT'S why he wants to know ASAP if anyone feels they've been unfairly targeted.

As for identifying a non-compliant helmet, there is FAR more than just that stupid little sticker on the back of the helmet. For the full specification of what comprises a DOT helmet (and it ain't just impact standards), see: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/enforce/DES KBK.html#MSH

See the things you can learn on BadWeb?

Thanks Jaime, I did not know the inner label was law. I stand corrected.

That is what I implied.

I'm glad you guys hung in there for a good cause despite the obstacles. I just meant to point out that the Hd guys don't have anything on the Squids when it comes to illegal lids. I used Long Island as the example because it is where I live and therefore ride most often though I enjoy riding a vast majority of this greatest of the 49 states.

(It will be a cold day in Hell before I recognize Missoura!)

Jamie- Once again, you've wildly misinterpreted two very simple sentences:
First, I asked who is "Larry" to say, etc. etc. ... His ID was self-evident from the post in which he's quoted. My point is- who is he to say that he NEEDS TO know about such an incident?

And as far as DOT ID, once again you've outdone yourself in terms of non-comprehension:

The question posed referred to how a cop could possibly recognize how a DOT sticker could be counterfeit, prior to pulling a rider over

. My response answered this, by stating that, even at a glance, a cop can tell a non-DOT lid, and, should said lid carry a DOT sticker, he'd have cause to perform a check.
I am sure that many of us realize what comprises a DOT helmet- the question, however, was how a cop could quickly recognize one.
No cop can see the inner label when a rider is going by, and the question was referring to actually stopping riders (implied cause) for non-compliance.

Those LI guys, (LIBAC) were awfully nice, and tolerant of the extreme heat.
The helicopters hovering overhead didn't help my enjoyment of the music much, at parties, but they did add to the overall apocalypse now vibe at said functions.
Where on the island are you? I used to live way out east, and I try to get out there as often as i can.

Tramp,

I'm not going to argue with you. I have better things to do with my time than to go over the same thing ad nauseum. This may be the way you amuse yourself; it's not mine. Thank you.

Funny how folks suddenly lose interest at the exact moment they realize their ammo's all wet.
