I just received my July copy of Motor Cyclist Mag and on the cover is a XR1200 and below that is snap of Erik reading "25 years of Buellishnes"

The opening page of the article reads
"Erik Buell, founder, chairman and chief technical officer of the Buell Motorcycle Company, is nothing if not a polarizing figure. To some he's a motorcycling hero, a maverick engineer who builds daring, innovative sportbikes that embody American individuality and ingenuity. To others he's a fool, blinded by his own brilliance, quick to sacrifice function for cleverness, almost pathologically drawn down the path of most resistance and, at best, a footnote in motorcycle design history."

Should be a good read....

It's Motorcyclist.I wouldn't trust that rag to be anything but biased. They epitomize yellow journalism. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that all the writers were on the payroll of a Japanese manufacturer.

Isn't it amazing how, if a magazine doesn't praise everything about Buell, and overlook any of their KNOWN faults discussed here every day, it's the "epitomy of yellow journalism?"

Hell yes it's amazing.

On the payroll of a Japanese manufacturer? Ducati, Aprilia, BMW, KTM and Moto Guzzi must be paying them too. Maybe Buell is the only manufacturer not paying them.

They all pay, it's called advertising revenue and the ads are there for us to see who is supporting the mag.

I just wish they wouldn't use that thick stock that I have to rip out before enjoying the magazine. (Usually insurance ads.)

Maybe some manufacturers have better press junkets than others.....

You guys are forgetting that Motorcyclist published their in-house helmet testing a couple of years ago and lost their Arai and Shoei accounts. That is integrity. They totally bucked the establishment and lost big accounts to publish an article that benefited the readership.

You'll never hear me say anything good about Motorcyclist. The former Senior Editor, Mitch Boehm, worked for American Honda before taking the reins of Motorcyclist. I personally saw the staff of Triumph drop everything and grovel and pander to Dexter Ford at Daytona Bike week '96, just so he wouldn't give Triumph a bad review. I remember the comparison between the 998 Ducati and a Yamaha 1000, where they said the Yamaha was superior.
Until I stopped reading that piece of crap, somewhere around 2000, they never said anything good about Buells.
I personally think Easyriders has more integrity. If it isn't American, they hate it, and will readily admit it. Hell, they're proud of it. Motorcyclist claims objectivity, while displaying blatant prejudice. They're liars and phonies.
I put their credibility on a par with the Weekly World News.

+1 for Crusty and it's not because of their Buell coverage.

Mitch Boehm is a dick. Every editorial he writes is about how cool he is. I still like the magazine, especially since he is nearly gone now.

Just read the Buell Vs. Aprilia review in the new issue.

Buell wins.

They do complain about the brakes not engaging in an linear manner and not working at the track, just like everyone else. They also say the fuel injection sucks at low rpm, just like everybody else (I rode one, and they were kind). Handling was described as wonky.

On the positive side they say it is the best riding position and cockpit in the business. They like the mass centralization and power compared to the 10 year old Aprilia.

They called the 1125 the "clear winner".

Just read the article on Erik Buell.

After the odd introduction it is 100% positive.

It almost gushes about his perseverence and successes in the face of failure.

Performance Bikes is the only magazine I've spent money on lately. I used to pick up a StreetFighters every now and then until they started looking more like Super Streetbike.

CycleWorld was my favorite mag until they got rid of John Burns in '93 (I know he's back but they're not the same magazine anymore), and I had a subscription to Motorcyclist one year when I got one for free.

...Anyway, it's good they didn't rag on Mr.Buell.
