It ain't about need. It's about capacity.

It's what this country is built upon.

(It's not about capacity, it's about fantasy)

That's why soccer moms are driving around in monstrous "off-road" vehicles that will never see dirt.

That's why we have 108" LCD televisions.

That's why we have 64oz Big Gulps.

That's why people want high capacity magazines.

That's why people want .50 caliber hand guns.

People want to have it just to say they have it or in case they ever want it.

Need has very little to do with it. You can call it fantasy. Most of us live one fantasy or another. Sometimes those fantasies are positive. Sometimes those fantasies are negative. What does it matter? If someone chooses to carry, having completed all the necessary requirements to do so and being able to handle the weapon safely and accurately, why is that bad?

If they are able to carry without becoming a certified gun balls ass hat, why does it matter? My grandmother still rolls with a .38 revolver in her glove compartment. Always has.

I don't think I have ever seen her gun balls.

ftbastard, I'll tell you why it matters:
cases like that exampled above, where carriers who have practiced pulling a handgun while operating a motorcycle model designed for public highway use.

Read again: I didn't question 'carry' in that post (and, again, I am an NRA lifetime member), I questioned the strange need/desire to draw a weapon while operating a street-model motorcycle.
that's simply inane and unsafe from both the motorcycling and shooting perspective.

I shoot regularly, I own some really swell pieces, I'm qualified in both US and Warsaw-pact small arms (with a "minor" in the Kalashnikov family of fine arms) and I've carried and discharged in many foreign countries; I simply don't feel the desire to do this here in America, unless I'm hunting game (which i do with great frequency).

I agree. I read the post as tongue in cheek. If anyone actually tried it with the accompanied stress that would come from the situation, they nearly or absolutely kill themselves.

It's why there are few instances where police officers will shoot from a moving vehicle.

There is no way I could or would fire from a bike.

It is fantasy right out of the last scene of "Torque".

I guess I read into your post (and posts in the other thread) a general condemnation of concealed carry in general.

Did I get the wrong impression?

responding to your own inferred concepts and responding to the intel actually posted are two different things.

That being said, I do find the obsession with "carry" (outside of police & military) to be a tad milk-toasty, kind of like the whimpy kid in high school who carries mace.
be a man, this isn't Beirut.
(where, when I last visited in '83, everyone carried)

Ever fired a CZ-52 Tramp? I picked one up that is in great shape and was dirt cheap.

A pretty hot round unless you are looking to shoot things that are behind other things, but a pretty neat little semi-auto for $129 (with holster, tools, and two magazines).

Or a little ambidextrous. ; )

Just found a pic of my dream bike,
if only Buell would build it :

found in this thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15 4900

Back when I had the Knucklehead I used to have a small military pouch on the front forks between the springer springs that I kept a few things in, one was a fillet knife sticking up out of it (handle first), and I always had a small daypack on the rear seat with a fishing rod sticking up out of it. Never got bothered by law or lawless over them.

This looks like an interesting link, can't get to it from the daytime location though

You can't see it too well, but that's fine example of the "Chay Zet" I'm holding in 1988

I have a good friend who I ride with a few times a year. We've been in a few situations together that we've had to tread carefully around. We've both been run off the road at the same time by idiot drivers. One time we had to leave a bar... walking backwards. He rides a Harley and I guess he looks like a 'biker' with long hair and beard, the whole bit. This apparently attracts attention from the wrong element sometimes and a lot of people have preconceived notions... especially patched bikers.

I recently discovered that in all the situations I've been in with him, he was carrying a little J-frame in a boot holster. He had never talked about CC before. He also said that not one of the situations we've been in ever warranted anyone knowing.

That's the kind of person who is responsible enough to CC.

I guess I am just milk toast but I have made it through the Pakistan & Indian war several up risings in Pakistan A hostiage affair in Iran (30yrs in Mid east) so far I have made it to 72 yrs old by just being prepared to save my self because I have found I am the only one I can count on in most cases I just beleave in being aware of what could happen I will not change by the way I am comisioned and have a weapon permit.

the brass certainly explains a lot....
...worried about some retired NCOs looking for you?
I still cna't see the need to practice clutch engagement and kill-switch op. while drawing a weapon...
but, given your 72 years, you don't owe anyone an explanation, and you've certainly earned the right to resort to other-than-physical deterrents, in my book.

Please just give me a heads-up when you're on the roads in my general region, first, so i can make other plans
(just kidding)

And my apologies for any disrespect sent your way

WTF, just got back from Gander Mtn and since and am pretty pissed since I am sans Gun. they screwed up with telling me that the 72 hour wait starts the day after purchase. I get finished with all the transfer paper work and am looking at ammo when the girl stops me and says they need to take it back. I'm pretty pissed. They gave me a hat and a coupon for the screw up but it still sucks. Better believe I will be there first thing in the AM.

/Rant off

I'm sure he's just excited to take it home and get used to it. Hell, he could choose to not even ever carry it. Regardless, they promised a date and couldn't deliver. Any customer buying anything could be pissed about a situation as that.

I was making a funny....? any gun buyer should know his/her state's reg.s, and the store has an obligation to know this, they could lose their FFl is they let it go. Sounds like they dropped a big ball.
I'm not sure I read the post the same as you did- he doesn't actually say that they promised it that day...somehow, he had the paperwork and then they asked for the piece back?

I just took it as he thought the 72 hr wait took place before the purchase. I know you were making a funny. It just sounded to me like they told him he could take the piece on a specified date (which, to a customer, sounds like a promise) only to show up and find out the 72 hour period didn't start til the transaction took place. I don't know the regs for that area but I know I'm not eligible in my area for cc however I'd still be let down for not being able to field strip repeatedly until it became second nature... thats all lol.

I know I can wait another day, I do just want to get use to it, break it down and read the manual, maybe go target shooting on Sunday if I feel comfortable.

I purchased it at 11:45 on Tuesday, they had promised that I could pick it up any times after 11:45 on Friday. I stop in after a good 100 mile ride and Finish all the necessary paper to transfer it into my name, Had it in my possession and was leaving, Stopped to look at some ammo on my way out when the one girl come over to me and says " I know your going to hate me but I have to take the gun back" I was bent, then talked to 3 managers and some associates they had in from other stores for there grand opening.

Would you guys be ticked too? I don't think I"m in the wrong for thinking they dropped the ball on this one.

That would hack any one, I wish every one that can pass back ground check and gun course would carry just my openion. As you may or may not know the worst shooting have taken place is in no gun zone (schools ect) yet ther have not been a reported case of a shooting at a gun range.
I wonder why?????
