It looks like I'm going to get wet on Saturday, the first race of the season for me. BUMMER!

I have a set of Corsa III to put on the bike but no $$ for a set of rains.
Any tips on keeping it on 2 wheels would be appreciated.


FYI track location is Nelson Legdes/Warren Ohio.

Keep the bike perpendicular to the track surface at all times. Let your sphincter be your guide.

Get in touch with Tim Ivanoff (Smoke). The guy is insane smooth and fast in wet conditions. He's dropped me twice (once on his S1 and last time on his 1125R) in the wet when I slightly bobbled in the corners and couldn't reel him back in during our annual post MB weekend rain rides.

I thought he always waved me by in the dry because I was faster than he was, but as it turns out, it's because he has more sense than I do. His ability in the wet is phenomenal and I think that's a good indication of skill level.

Going slow enough not to wreck is a good idea. Pull a plug to keep it from spinning out from under you on corners. In the "old" days they would take a 1/4" drill bit, get it very sharp and flat on the bit, use a thick build up of tape for a depth gage and drill about twenty to thirty little "suction cup" holes in the tread areas.

You could adjust the throttle to open slower(build in a little slack).

And you could just ride like you normally do. That should be slow enough!

Ride like you normally do, but do it one gear higher.

This simple advice was given to me years ago by a very successful pro. It proved to be very effective... including at the green flag.

Reg took the word outta my post (by which i mean, before i had a chance to type it)- don't worry about reducing your angle of inclination, etc., such departures from your norm will only jam up your melon and lead to a yard sale.
The best addendum I could attach to reg's post is, simply, not to avoid sliding, but, rather, to embrace it.
Teach yourself how to successfully throttle-steer, get to know your machine's parameters and learn to love the drift.
Coming from a childhood fulla MX racing, i can attest to the value of embracing slide, i when streetriding.

Tramp has a good grasp on this topic. When I first met him it was a literal downpour and here we are cruising at 80 mph, not so bad most would say, until you noticed that he was on slicks with the chords peeking through.

Just be smooth on/off the throttle/brake. You can still ride fast in the rain just have to use more finesse. I think its pretty fun to ride on the track when it is wet. If you can go fast in the rain think what you can do when it is dry!

Evidently none of you youngsters ever got to meet let alone race against Gary Nixon or Dick "Bugsy" Man.
Either one today at age 66 and 74 could turn quicker laps in the rain than any "track bike rider" today could even think about in the dry.

Jramsey, I would really love to meet you! I would love to talk shop. still waiting to hear about the cassoday run. I need to get some advice about track racing as i'm going to hallet for track days. Since the weather has been so touchy i hope to get some tips on the rain racing thing. I raced flat track and mx from age 10 to age 17, and I had Al Snoop and Jimmy Weinert as coach/mentors. My dad used to take us to watch gary Nixon hot-footing his Trumpets at many fine ovals...he was my goddam idol, more so than Lawill et al.
I've laid out the training regimen we had to practice each day- i'm sure those posts are still somewhere on this board.
Dad made my brother and I do 10 minutes with no front brake, then 10 with no rear, and 10 with no brakes at all, before allowing us to head out with brakes, again; of course, on our flat trackers, we hadn't the luxury of two brakes, anyway.
Your post is pretty presumptuous, maybe you should ask before you preach, next time.

Evidently your wrinkled old ass hasn't been on this board long enough to realize that most here have a vast amount of experience both on and off the track and offer both tongue in cheek as well a serious advice, which by the way I didn't see in your post.

Maybe you should have some facts before you make assumtions.
