It should work fine if you right click the ECMspy shortcut, and then click Run as Administrator. I haven't personally tested this, as I only have Vista on my desktops.

I open Windows Vista in Administrators mode and have zero problems running ECMSpy. BUT I cannot seem to be able to install MegaLog Viewer!! It gives me a message saying something about the administrator has set policies concerning this installation. What the heck does that mean? I'm in administrator mode and I see nothing that might allow me to change something to permit the install. Anybody know whats up here?

Both ECMspy and MLV installed fine for me, i did it right from my restricted account. It prompted me for the admin password, i punched it in and installed like normal. It appears to be working fine, but i don't have a 50' ecm cable to hook it up to the bike : )

Dent, is this a personal or work laptop?
What make and model?
What version of Vista? (Home Basic, Home Prem., Business, Ultimate, etc)
Do you have all the latest windows updates including service pack 1?

This is a personal laptop. Gateway MT6705. Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2060. Vista Home Premium. It gets updates all the time so I assume it is updated completely. I wonder where the administrators settings are so I can change them? Anything else you can suggest would be helpful? Thanks Froggy.

Dentfixer, I have the same exact computer, so were in the same EXACT boat. I have no idea how to run ECMspy as administrator. Was i supposed to do something different before I downloaded it?

Ben,
My ECMSpy installed smoothly without a hitch. So I can't help you with that. I know I had to download and install the FTDI drivers. I think I did that first before executing the ECMSpy install. Maybe that will help you?

I guess what my real question is how do you open vista in administrator mode? What does that mean.

If you're the only account in Vista I guarantee you're the administrator. If you're still not sure, or if there's many accounts on your computer, you can always check by clicking the "Start" button and then clicking on the picture at the top of the menu that pops up. That should take you to the User Accounts page. On that page it'll say what type of an account yours is under your name, and whether it's password protected or not.

Hope this helps.

Depends, by default Vista hides the administrator account and forces you to log in as a normal user, you would then have to run everything in administrator mode, however there is a work around if you want to log in and run everything as administrator, just check the following link: http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?com mand=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9001970&pageNumber =2

That may work, although I would strongly recommend not running your PC in adminstrator mode. I've fixed many friends computers who would not have gotten bogged down with viruses/spyware if they would just learn to use a limited user account instead of browsing the web as an admin
