Wow, I was just informed/given permission from my wife to let my 10 year old son ride two up with me. I never asked or broached the subject with her.

A little background history:
My wife crashed a '59 Cushman scooter that I had restored for her 14 years ago. She, as near as I can figure, had a "target fixation" and bounced the scooter off the side of a house going around a corner at 35 mph. She was wearing a full face helmet but still suffered a broken jaw, that tore a hole in her ear drum, lost 12 teeth (now has 4 dental bridges-one on each side top and bottom) broke her left knee cap and broke a few bones in her right foot. She spent 9 days in the hospital and had her jaw wired shut for 6 or 8 weeks, I don't remember. Countless trips to physical therapy, countless trip to the oral surgeon for dental reconstruction. Way back when, she said she'd never ride again.

My kids, daughter -just turned 13, has a little 50cc scooter that she rides at my shop. Down and back an alley, she has around 130 miles on it-yep the length of 2 city blocks at a time. My son has a 90cc 4 wheeler that he's managed to wear out the rear tires from doing doughnuts and just plain riding the snot out of it.

This will be the first "on street" experience for my son. Time to find the "pay it forward" section in the BRAN and see what coat/gloves are available. They both already have properly fitting full face helmets.

Still trying to pick myself up off the floor....WOW. Never saw it coming. The last time I felt this way was when my wife told me we were expecting our first child.

Tona,
Congats! Hope he loves it as much as we do! You are lucky to have a partner like that! Going to have to put a throttle stop on your bike while hauling the boy? {: )}

It's official....

He's HOOKED!

I putted thru town 1.5 miles to my dad's place for Memorial Day picnic, max speed was 30mph with my wife following behind in the car w/ my daughter.
We do the picnic meal. About 2 seconds after I finished my homemade ice cream, my son is standing there with his helmet on asking when we can "go around the block".

So we go around a few blocks, maybe 5 minutes of riding and back to the picnic. About 15 minutes later he's standing next to me, STILL with his helmet on, wanting to know when we can take another ride. We ride another 7-8 minute loop max speed 40. I slowly wanted to build him up to get him used to riding. He loosened up a little and started moving his head around so he could see the countryside. The first ride he had his helmet planted dead center in my back. Got back to the picnic and my wife had left to go home. I do the obligatory good-byes and my son says, "Is it time to ride again?" Yep, time to go home. He drops his shoulders and says,OK, let's go home. I asked him if he wanted to go directly home or take the "scenic route". "SCENIC ROUTE!!!!!!" he jumped for joy. took him out on a smaller business route/hwy to the house, top speed 55.

He's officially been vaccinated with the eBUELLa virus! I don't think there's any hope of saving him

Glitch, she's not "paying it forward" As my wife says "all the good stuff's been donated to science" so no more "surprises" in my future ; )

Toona - that's great news. If he's like our daughter, you've got a permanent riding partner. Have fun and post pictures.
