Looking at buying 2003 Buell XB9R as my first Buell. The bike has 2374 miles on it. It has a Sharkskinz race body on the bike. It also has the factory race kit installed. The guy is asking $4200. It sounds like a good deal or would I be better off with the XB12R? What do you guys think about the XB9R?

Don't say if you're an experienced rider or what, but in a nutshell, the 12 has more poke but the 9 is more responsive.
Go try em both before you buy.

The 03 xb9 is a good bike, potential issues: check wheel bearings, you are looking for orange seals.
the belt is a weak point and if it has not been done already it should be updated to the new
06+ spec belt (new pulleys, belt guards and belt) or chain drive.
Speedo sensors can go out, there is a retro-fit part to fix the issue.

The 9r really doesn't lose much to the 12, it has less torque so you have to keep it wound a bit
tighter, but it is smoother and will have everything you need on the street.

There is a lot that can be done with either the 9 or 12, but many prefer the higher reving
9 to the gruntier 12.

If you check my profile you'll see where I fall in the spectrum ; )
