Crap like this bothers me....... I see something and don't know what I'm looking at. This appears to have Remington embossed in the hand guard. What has my attention is the metal paddle on the side of the engine case. Looks like it is hinged at the front. WTF is it? Click:http://www.villagephotos.com/image.asp?id_=2282745 8

yep- as I thought, it's an LD series.
the "paddle" is an auto kickback shield, actuated by chain-brake.

I sold one of these two years ago, that someone brought in for me to repair.
I handed him a used McCullough (hate 'em) and sent him on his way- I know many folks who prefer electric saws for small jobs around the yard)

Yeah, dammit, my original assessment was that it was a "tool less" chain adjuster with it's big knob behind the paddle....just that the damned paddle didn't make sense. Thanks tramp.......this thread can die now..........

That's a real Crocodile Dundee moment,

Nah that's not a chainsaw, this is a chainsaw!

I've got a big old Stihl for the big cuts & a little Echo for trimming.

Trouble is if the wife & one of her brothers get loose unattended in the garden the trees start dropping before you can blink & there's a big bonfire to burn all the foliage.
Then I have to go & buy a load of sausages & baking spuds, & stick some cider in the fridge.

The Stihl is a 031AV, Craigster found me the oil pump gears that it needed & now it runs like a champ. I think Noah used one for building the Ark,
I found it abandoned in the barn of an old place I sold a few years back, along with a 9mm single shot bolt action shotgun (garden gun) amongst other things.
