Yes, another helmet thread.

By the end of this summer I’ll be putting my son on the back of my Blast to get him to school in the mornings. It’s a 6 mile trip to get there. I need a recommendation for helmet for him. He’s 14 yoa, 5 foot 10 and in a year I expect him to be close to 6 foot tall. He’s growing so fast I don’t want to spend $350 or $400 on a helmet that will only last a couple of months. Still he needs to have good head protection.

Only requirements are at least DOT approved and be a full face design. Anyone have a recommendation as to what brands I should consider for him? I looked at an Electro that seemed ok for the money, but helmets are something I don’t know a lot about.

Any ideas or pointers?

Our daughter is 13 and has been riding for the past 5 years. Her first helmet was a Bieffe that friends caught on sale. I think I paid $150-$175 for her HJC helmet last year. It's a full-faced helmet that is Snell and DOT approved. I also have the HJC and have been pleased with it.

Good link Jesse, I'll check it out when I get home.

Ulywife, I'll check out the Bieffe's also. They have a website I assume.

$85 ???? Cool, I'm glad I ask. Money is pretty tight right now so inexpensive is good thing. I could have bought a 1125r with what I've paid the lawyer. There there is something to this reincarnation thing, I'm coming back as a divorce lawyer. It would be nice to be rich for a change...

If you order from them online, keep on them. I've bought two helmets from them and I recommend calling a couple days after you order to make sure they have it processed. I've received both of mine with in a week of ordering.

Not sure about a Bieffe website. They found it at a local Honda/Kaw/Suz (or the like) shop.

Our little kids are now wearing it, as they only ride on the little 50 in the yard.

Also check out newenough.com for gear. I picked Carlee up a Joe Rocket textile jacket w/liner for $40 (had originally been $219). In fact, I ordered the next size up as well. Couldn't go wrong for that price.

Don't forget our Pay It Forward Section. There are a couple of jackets on there that we can check into. Didn't see any full faced helmets though.

Tom,

I'd say your right but this kid is different, he's gonna be a moose. He just turned 14, and wears men's size 13 shoes. If he grows into those feet there's no telling how big he'll get. At least it's nice to know that all those groceries aren't going to waste...lol

AFX, which is not exactly a high end brand but makes a decent helmet (I ride one) has youth-sizes as does Fulmer. You can buy an AFX on line and Fulmer can be ordered from a dealer. Making sure they fit can be difficult. I conned the dealer into ordering mine and allowing me to reorder if it didn't fit. I was lucky and it fit well.

While he is sure to keep growing, his noggin is probably not going to.

So you think it's safe to fit him with a decent helmet because his head has stopped growing? Wish it worked the same with shoes.....lol

Read MOTORCYCLISTS "blowing the lid off" on their web site. Z1R Strike for less than $100 rated best.
Better than my, his or her opinion.

I got a Scorpion EXO400 for myself and later another for my daughter. I got them from Sportbiketrackgear.com based on some recommendations here (are they a sponsor?). I think I paid $119 shipped. It's an outstanding helmet.
