If this was 'Nam, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. We'de be pickin our teeth with that wolf-dogs bones and asking each other how it tasted.

Dang society...

Mikej,
out of town or would have responded sooner - agree completely. It's partly the breed raising the concern, but mostly the owner. Seems to be the way it goes most of the time.

Philly,
Yep.

Rebel,
"the environment they are in and how they are treated goes a long way for how they act. "
Yep.

Dyna,
Baseball bat. Should it come to that, hopefully it won't.

Went down to City Hall on Friday and found out that there is some background stuff going on. Waiting to see, and living life with concern but not paranoia regardless.

Sometimes I have seen a guy that has or thinks he has the biggest and baddest dog on the block and says so. Example of little dick big dog syndrome. I dunno what is up with this chick tho. Sounds odd. Maybe she just likes exotic animals. Interesting the she was out walking the dog to introduce it to the neighbors. You are right about her leaving it tied to a tree and the kids approaching it. Accident waiting to happen. There are just too many incidents of that kind to take a chance on it. I dunno what is in her head but I would consider her lack of concern for the safety of the children a red flag. In her place, out walking the dog, I would have a muzzle on him. Just in case. If the dog should go after a child I doubt any of us could pull him off. Other sticking the barrel of a magnun in his ear and pulling the trigger he would be unlikely to let go. The child would be dead or mutulated in seconds. Just like a dog shaking a shoe. Good luck.

Home plate and the infield are covered reasonably well. The outfield is up to the local P.D.
;)
Just hope things don't come down to that.

Jon

and if this were the Nam, we'd also be commuting in Hueys, and taking incoming regularly . . .. . not a trade I'd make, that's for sure (though I'll admit to the fact that I do miss direct acti0on from time to time {grin})

Budo

My experience is dated, but most of the exotic pet owners at the time (late 70s) were female . . . . I don't even want to guess as to why, but there it is

The one aspect of direct action that tends to keep some things in check is the direct reaction one oft-times encounters in such encounters.

All quiet for the moment, apart from the howling at the passing trains and the local sirens and the moon and a little loneliness howl on the occasional mid-day refrain. I wonder what's to come if it goes into estrus in the next few months and manages to attract a few of the southward drifting lone wolves that are purported to be in the vicinity.

Bomber,

I was about 12 when 'Nam was over. I knew if I posted that someone here who was actually there would say something like you did.

Glad you made it out, Chief.

Apparently, according to an officer we spoke with, the wolf owner has been cited several times for the animal getting loose. Apparently it got loose a week or two ago while we were away moving stuff out of our old apartment. Apparently the wolf was going after another neighbor's dog and had it cornered under a car. Apparently the wolf may have also bit the other dog's owner as they were trying to get control of the wolf. Possibly the wolf owner was not at home during this incident. The wolf may be on a home quarantine for 14-20 days.

The reports I heard were all second hand, but I've requested a copy of the police report so we can have facts instead of rumors and speculation (such as a possible $600+ fine being levied), as well as any other publicly available records regarding this and any related reports. We had a lengthy discussion with the local P.D. about the matter and were given several options to pursue legally with the city's regulatory departments. This would not be breed-specific legislation, instead it would be to include second story deck enclosures on non-fenced properties to be constructed as to contain animals kept there, for one example.

The wolf did take an aggressive stance and started growling at us as it came outside of the balcony railing while we were in our backyard playing with our pups. The wolf owner happened to be home that time and came out and took the wolf inside, she did not seem to want to talk with us.

The issue will probably be resolved relatively shortly as the bulk of the neighborhood is quite fed up with the situation. We are just going about living our lives, while keeping a cautious eye on the wolf next door.

As a side note, apparently the wolf owner has refused to allow the duplex owner to add additional railing boards to the deck the wolf is kept on. The duplex owner, per his attorney's recommendation apparently, had the wolf owner sign a letter of responsibility to make her liable for anything that may happen due to the wide railing board spacing.
