I was planing to install my new Drummer tomorrow afternoon. I was just reading my shop manual and I see Buell recommends replacing the torca clamp and mounting straps when replacing the muffler.

Is it really important to replace these parts? It take 1-2 weeks to get any parts from my local dealer and I'm really anxious to get this thing going.

No need to replace. I've had mine on and off a dozen times and Its still good to go.
When you put it on, reverse the rear straps so they will be easy to get to next time.

I think it's a pogo stick/lawyer thing. Reused mine several times too. No prob.

The torca clamp might be reusable (can not/will not say for sure) but the straps lose tensile strength each time they're reused. The last thing I'd want is for a strap to snap while I'm hurling myself down a road at high velocity.

Just my $0.02
keep the change : )

Thanks guy's. I think what I am going to go ahead and do the install tomorrow, and then order the parts to have on hand. I could always change them out next time I have the chin fairing off for an oil change.

I bought a new clamp and strap to have on hand just in case. After 4 times going on and off I still have the spare clamp and strap. Just make sure to follow the recommended torque specs.

Not a bad idea to pick up spares though.

The straps are reusable, unless they have been seriously over tightened.

Steel does not lose tensile strength unless it goes into plastic yield, ie: it is permanently stretched.

These straps do fail in other, mechanical ways however.

They can be temporarily replaced by ordinary hose clamps, although I recommend three 1/2" straps in the rear to replace two of the ones supplied.

The trick in installing is to jack the muffler up tight against the mounts with a jack, and then start from the front, then the back, then tighten the muffler and header clamp. This assures that there are no residual stresses in the system from mounting.

The stainless Torca clamps are available from marine supply stores for about four bucks. Several have a web presence. I think Buell charges $18 for the same clamp, and makes you wait forever to get them. Not my idea of great customer service.

Mine fell off. May have been installer error... Could have been a failure... The two rears are fine though

wykedflesh reused his straps. straps broke riding down the road. pipe came off, bike went up, he went down. and still isnt back on a bike a few years later(he got messed up pretty good).

having said that, i have yet to buy any new straps

Rice also remember.... Wykedflesh if I remember right made the muffler himself using a V&H. Those straps might not of liked the contour they followed being tightned on that particular muffler and let go on the account of that. Maybe he'll chime in??

Before the clamps are damaged the muffler shell will yield. Don't ask how I know... ; )

As Gentleman_jon has instructed, make sure the muffler is snuggled to the upper mounts, and the muffler clamps are torqued to spec. Before tightening the Torca Clamp. I use anti-seize on the end of the head pipe to make sure it doesn't bind in the muffler. Get that wrong and the head pipe could crack or an exhaust flange stud could break.

I went ahead with the install using the old hardware. I used a floor jack to hold the Drummer in place and everything went smooth. I do wish I would have thought to use anti-seize though.

I also installed the 07 air-box with a K&N filter and flashed the ECM with race fuel maps and spark tables. I am planning to go with custom maps in the near future.

I installed my Drummer today. This thing rocks! I love it! Now I just need to learn how to tune out the decel popping via ECMSpy.

With regard to reversing the straps, I tried to do that, but (if I recall correctly) the engine case would have prevented tightening them properly from the left side of the bike.

The best I could do was to position the straps so that the bolt is now positioned at 9'oclock when viewed from behind and the nut is facing the ground. If the nut were the opposite way (facing up)...same issue...I couldn't get the torque wrench on the nut.
