Chihuahua Stud and myself are in the process of planning a trip departing South Atlanta Wed morning and back home Sunday night. Wed will have to be a relatively short day in the saddle due to I have to work all night the night before, but after a little rest, we'll be ready to log on a few more miles. The plan is to head north, stay off slab as much as possible, and stay in the mountains as far as possible. Maybe camp a night or two and hotel in between. Does anyone have any ideas where a good northern destination would be that fits these criteria? West Virginia, Kentucky? good stops along the way? Enjoyable roads at a touring pace? (No Slab)

and would anyone else like to join in this adventure?

Uhhhh.... Suches, duh. And hit the dragon in western NC/easter TN on a weekday - I haven't been there yet, I'm told it's a bit of circus on the weekends. You really can't loose anywhere around there.

Cherohalla Skyway is supposed to be nice, and you could do a bit of the Blue Ridge Parkway if you wanted something a little more relaxed.

yeah i think we'll probably hit those on the way up, the cherry cola and the dragon are kinda the givens, but what about north of there? kentucky, west virginia? is 16 nice out of asheville going north? are there more of those roads that people don't know about or have forgotten about.

+1 for that recommendation. Ride north and camp at T.W.O. Spend your time riding twisties all day and sleeping at T.W.O. There are lots of great roads close by, and the Dragon or a Dragon/Cherohalla loop can easily be done from Suches in one day.

Run up the Blue Ridge Parkway/ It starts near Cherokee and heads into Virginia.

looks like I'll be going at this alone for the most part of the trip. A friend of mine donated a Mad Map with a series of loops from georgia to virginia. currently my plan is to head to suches wednesday and then north to cheroholla and dragon thursday. from there depending on me and the weather, I'll be using the western parts of the loops going north and the eastern parts of the loops coming back south. probably camp most of the time and may splurge abit at Hot Springs for a good bath and a decent place to sleep Friday. Kinda just gonna take my time with this trip and enjoy the beauty the mountains have to offer, and if I'm not in Virginia by Saturday noon, I'll just look the map over and start my journey back. I'm really looking forward to this little get away.

If you can work it in, head to Shady Valley, hwy 421, anything around Asheville is nice. Stop in and se fellow BWB'r 'Creeker' at the cycle shop in Asheville.

If you make it into WV, from your direction 16 up through Marion,VA through Taswell is nice. If you want to make that the upper end 16 north to 58. West on 58 until you get west of the nation park then south. That is a little that I have experienced.

Got back about an hour ago only to find a motorcycle accident with a fatality 2 miles from my house. Really makes my 1000 mile adventure feel like crap.

My ride went off without any problems. I rode 1000 miles of N. GA, N Carolina, Virginia , and Tennessee backroads. I met allot of great people along the way including a new badwebber that was kind enough to let me stay at their cabin last night, instead of dealing with the KLR rally that was going on at Tellico Plains. Thanks Brian! I'll start my ride report with pictures later on today with a few recommendations on roads, places to stay and places to eat and drink.
