Glad all my friends got some enjoyment outa the deal up north . . . . hope you are all OK, and didn't fall down in a heap after trying to ride with some of the feet-draggers I saw down here (abulances galore scraping up brand new HDs and their brand-new riders . . . . yikes) . . . . Grounder and my wife and me spent a lovely sunday riding through the Kettle and Holy Hill area (thanks for the route sheets, Brer Bill) . . . great day, even counting the liquid sunshine that started just north of the state line . . . . .. silly me, though, I neglected to round out the biker experience by listening to Elton John on the way home . . . . .Elton John? sheeeesh . . . . I HAVE outlived my usfulness, it would seem . . . . just put me out on an iceberg and push me out to sea . . . . .. I never woulda guessed Elton John . . .. . hmmmmm | ||

Bomber, lots of them feet draggers around. Funny thing is a lot of them had Illinois plates. Seriously...I have never seen so many new riders on new bikes that had absolutely no business being near a bike much less on one. I am glad to see them all go home. Cant believe I saw folks ride in from Colorado, New york, Georgia, etc, yet the majority of bikes I saw in trailers were from where??? Thats right ..Illinois. Baggers from Illinois on a trailer headed to Milwaukee. What a fricken joke. I hope to hell they hold any future rallys at York or KC. | ||

Dyna no argument from me . . . . lot's of newbies . . . saw 3 accidents caused by foot draggers from Illinois, all of em were clueless that they had caused accidents, and went on their merry ways . . .. ah well Bill how's about the weekend of 13/14 September? | ||

The weekend of 13-14th you guys could always make a run up to Tomahawk. See Harleys fiberglass plant. Never been up there & right now depending on the weather I am considering it. | ||

Use to fish Walleye a lot at a lake north of the Dell's..every weekend the place would get packed at the resort with all the Chicago people...at least when they came, we got to see some good looking ladies...their were none, or very few, in that part of Wisconsin! Dale every weekend its like that. Hit lake geneva, delaven, Door County, the Dells area, etc & you will see its probably 60-70% Illinois plates. I wonder how come Wisconsinites arent flocking to East st louis on weekends?  | ||

Dyna...The answer to your observation/question is simple. Other than entertainment and tourism, we don't have many real jobs left here. Wisconsin has been taxing the employers to death and they have been leaving in droves since the 1960's. | ||

I've always thought that Wisconsin was a greeat state, but was confused by the attitude towards those that paid for your roads, schools and like that . . . .. but, that is just ONE of the things I'm confused about! | ||

Nothing to be confused about there. Now that industry has left the State, the State is surviving almost entirely off of property taxes. Which means the underemployed and unemployed are supporting the infrastructure that the affluent tourists come here to enjoy. Translation: I would prefer user taxes and other forms of taxation that would redistribute the load to those that can afford it. Hmmmm...sounds like either a new thread or the wrong board to discuss this on. LOL | ||

Whoops...I knew I forgot something. Thanks to all that visited Wisconsin for the Buell 20th and Harley 100th!!! Your contribution to the States Economy is greatly appreciated and we are all looking forward to seeing all of you again at the next event. | ||

Finally caught some news on the tv for the first time in 5 days and they were interviewing one of the Hal's managers. He said that events like this actually generate new sales for up to a year following the event. Apparently all the bikes in town get a lot of the fence sitters to commit to getting a new bike, and additionally lots of new never-been-near-the-fence buyers come into the showrooms having gotten caught up in the atmosphere. The reporter also said there were many buyers who wanted to buy their new bike from the Milwaukee area rather than buying one at their home dealership, I guess sort of like going to Germany to buy a BMW or Volkswagon, eh? This relates to something somehow, probably, maybe, or maybe not. Bye. | ||

Makes sense in a way. However, if you look at the issue closer, the sales should then be made in York, PA or Kansas City. All the Wisconsin operations, with the exception of Buell, are SUBCONTRACTORS. To top that off, all they make in Milwaukee are the parts that cause the heartaches...Like engines and transmissions. All the good stuff comes from elsewhere. LOL | ||

silver . . . . smackin Dyna for the footdragger comment is, while not inappropriate (he seems to like it), ya better include me in the smack-a-thon . . . . .. I'm not suggesting that newbies don't join the community, which would certainly be a mistake . . . I AM suggesting, however, that they get their chops in a little better shape before they try to navigate with another 100,000 of their newly-acquired brothers and sisters . . .. many of the obviously low-milage riders in the Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin area the last couple of weeks were out and out hazards to navigation, and, if they'd a been on the watter instead of the public thoroughfares, the Coasties would yanked their ignorant butts outa the right of way ignorance, clearly, is curable through greater thought, experience, and the application of one's self to acquire new skills I LOVE the fact that cagers are so much more aware of bikers than they were when I first started riding (during the last federal administration to leave office with a true budget surtplus {grin}) . .. I attribute much of this wareness, and increased courtesy, to the increased number of riders . .. . and the fact that the person behind the wheel is more likely to know/be related to/care about another biker somewhere . . .. . the AM version, nossir, got nuthing against newbies . . . .. so long as their newbie-ness does not pose a danger to me or mine | ||

Well put Bomber, my sentiments exactly. I wonder just how many of those footdraggers actually have a motorcycle license? How many ever attended an MSF course? And Silver since you chose to single me out with the "great rider" deal. Yes I am pretty damn good, have no problems getting around a race track or a B-trax course. Im no DuHamel...well he is almost as old as me, but Im no slouch either. BTW..I have taken the msf course as well as the advanced course & the 2 up riders course they offer...how about you? | ||

Dyna...where did you find an advanced rider course in WI? I checked earlier this year and none were offered. Where did you take a 2 up rider course? Thanks I took the MSF course 7 yrs. ago when I started riding and would really like to take another course. | ||

We did em 2 years ago right across from Racine Harley..hell whats that school..Case? Kenosha HOGS's safety director at the time set it up. Usually if you can get enough interest from chapter or a certain area you can have one put on. | ||
