I had one a while back. You can get a really nice clean shave with a good sharp straight razor. However my Fusion Razor gives me just as clean a shave with in less time with no worries of nicks. I also found the best shaving cream ever. A friend gave it to me, it's from Bath & Body works. I would have never thought to look there for shaving cream. It's CO Bigelow and you only need a tiny bit each shave. So far it's lasted about a year and I have over half a tube left. | ||

Don't forget the Badger hair brush! I just got into the whole old school shaving thing to. Your brave man using a straight though, I still nick myself with my Fusion. Try ebay for some badger hair brushes because they can get pretty expensive. I picked one up for $6.00, antique of course, but I'm sure its quality just like classic cars. Yeah it's mens shaving cream. It's in a super manly dark green ole fashion metal paste tube. Since the stuff lasts forever you'll only have to go in B&B Works about every 2-3yrs. I shaved my face the other day with a box knife blade. I didn't uncover a chin, just another fist. My favorite though, is the Bic Twin Disposable. "The first blade pushes the skin away, while the second blade gently collects bone-marrow" | ||

Norelco triple head........36+ years old and used every day. Two sets of brushes, a few new blades and many solder jobs from breaking the internal wires due to rapping it on the side of the waste basket to knock the whiskers out. Man, they don't build them like THAT anymore,,,,,,,,,,,/ | ||

I've had a beard for most of the last 18 years but still shave my neck once a week or so. The longish hairs and modern double and triple bladed razors just don't work. I changed back to a 60 year old razor that uses Gilette double edged blades. With that I can loosen the double door top and rinse the long hairs right out. Blades are like 10 for $1.50 at Wally World too. I got real tired of that crap where they redesigned the razors annually and either invalidated you current holdings of spare blades or discontinued the razor and blades you used. I'm still pissed about the Schick Injector going from carbon steel to stainless blades, and then they went out of business. That was the best razor I ever used when I was clean shaven. Straight razors need to be used with the blade at a right angle to the skin, and the blade kept square to the direction of the scraping movement. Anything else is for slicing off thin layers of skin. You have not had a good straight razor shave until you get one from a lady barber in Korea, Taiwan, or the Philippines. Jack (Message edited by jackbequick on May 01, 2008) | ||

Had lots of experience with the slide-in blade straight razors as a Navy Corpsman. Any surgery prep. had to be hairless. For any abdominal/upper leg sites it was nipples to knees half way around the side and everything down the middle. Just for fun I would put 4 or 5 bandaides on my face and get the biggest oversized rubber gloves with the fingers all flopped over every which way, then come walking in with my best hillbilly accent and yell back out toward the hall, "You knowed I kant shave no one. Hellfire man, they wouldn't even let me scrape hair off the hog." Then I'd turn to the patient in bed and say, "WWEEELL I guess youd agoina be my furst un ain't ya." Ya, if I had asked they probably would have paid me not to shave them but go ahead and just do the operation. | ||

Straight blade  I think I would bleed to death. I seem to be the only person that can cut himself with an electric razor  I do live near an old fashion barber shop, I have thinking about going in for a classic shave. | ||

I waited until I was 25 before I got a real barber shop shave like my dad used to get, but alas... barbers couldn't legally use a straight razor in Georgia anymore (I think it had something to do with the HIV mania that was sweeping the nation back then). They could still use hot towels though, and the barber did use an old fashioned safety razor with a new blade, so it was a close shave. I did get creeped out a little when the barber started massaging the back of my neck with one of those whirly hand vibrator gizmos. I had forgotten about that part. | ||

Fellas!! Maybe you all can help me. I've got quite a few replacement blades for an Atra razor- but I've long since lost my Atra razor handle!! This has been driving me nuts for some time- gotta love planned obsolescence and these damn 5 bladed, lubed, vibrating junk razors they sell now. Anyone out there know where to find a regular old Atra razor handle? I'd be thrilled to find one. | ||
