I talked a buddy out of getting a GSXR600 as his first bike, and told the basic speil - any single, and any multi under 600cc.

He says he bought a 2007 SV500. Anyone ever hear of such a bike? I know of an SV650 and a GS500, but not this hybrid, lol.

Yep.

Gray market here. Sold in Asia and some Euro countries (maybe ANZ)

Actually I think it's sold as an SV400 too.

We have a couple folks racing them as 500's in the lightweight twins classes.

Contact Zoran Vujasinovic at Twin Works Factory. He is the biggest SV builder that I'm aware of.

Yeah, but wasn't the SV400 older? This bike is a 2007.

When I search it on google, I get very limited responses and nothing of much value, so I'm guessing it is in fact a foriegn-market bike. Could one have made it here?

He's thinking of a Suzuki GS500 I betchya.

The GS500 is a fantastic learners bike. It reminds me of a Cyclone, with half the power. It's a bike that can do anything. (except go over 120 mph)

I think it's a GS too, since that's what he was talking about before.

What a good friend you are for giving that advice... what a good friend he is for taking it.

Thankfully, he's the kind of guy who knows free and clear that he doesn't know anything when it comes to motorcycles. He's the second person I've been able to talk out of a big sportbike as their first bike THIS YEAR ALONE!

The sport is growing, gotta keep those new folks safe.

I think I read in RRW a while back an article on shortening the SV stroke to get 500cc...

I think when a new rider rides a 500 series bike for a year and then rides/decides to get a 600 series and then rides it for 6 months or so. Will be exponentialy SAFER and faster compared to a new rider who just went out and just bought a 600 and rode it for a year and a half..

Good on you for talking to him.

GS500 is a great bike but has the limitation of being air cooled and has often been "beaten on" by previous owners.

EX500 is liquid cooled and is a bit more sporty... even though the GS has more of a "GSXR-like" look to it.

Reviewing some info - the SV500 is basically a stroked SV400... but can't confirm for absolutely certain.

I'm betting he's talking a GS if he's talking Suzuki.

Yeah, it's not an EX which is the Kawasaki, it's def a suzuki.

Looks like he's going to have me ride it home for him as well... another smart move.

I had a GS500, it was great, except for the fact that it took over a month to get any parts. I crashed it, only fixed part of it, then sold it for what i paid for it. : )

Well, he did get a GS500F and decided to ride it home himself. He's still alive as far as I know, so that's good, lol.
