There are a couple of these things in the Lakeland area here. The yellow looks terrible. The other one is exactly that and looks pretty bad ass.

I really like those. I plan to test ride one. My wife doesn't want to be a student of motorcycle riding. As a result, I won't put her on two wheels.

She is willing to be careful, so I'm thinking this might be a good option for my wife. Safer than a scooter. Big enough to ride two up with a kid and haul stuff.

It looks cool, but I'm kinda' disappointed that it handles like a 4-wheeler and not a bike.

What do you expect from Can-Am? : D

Part snowmobile. Part four-wheeler.

Talked to someone who has ridden one. The front end is very twitchy. They got a ways to go.

Those things are everywhere down here in South Florida! I saw some "badass" (at least to him, he was) looking mofo cruising on one the other day. He had ALL the classic HD gear on!

Test rode one, twitchy doesn't cover it. Although, no matter how hard I pushed it through the corners, The back end refused to come around without clutching...the guy I was following on the test rides face will stay with me for years, he saw me light up the back tire in his rearview and almost stoppied in front of me...

Dare to be different? I hope they catch on if for no other reason than to make the non-motorcyclists slightly more aware of the motorcyclists.

Regardless of how it compares to a motorcycle, I bet it'd be a hell of a lot more fun to commute to work on that than my Ford Explorer.

I saw a couple of them in Tallahassee Tuesday. They definitely catch your eye...

I'd love to try riding (driving?) one.

I've seen a few running around San Diego.

I don't get it. It is LEGAL to lane split here. OK, more correct, it ISN'T illegal to lane split here. Traffic sucks here.

Those things have most of the disadvantages of both cars and motorcycles, without the advantages of either. I can't figure out why anyone would buy one.

They won't keep you dry in a storm, they won't protect you in a crash, you have to (or should) wear gear to ride them, listening to the radio on them isn't all that great, you can't carry much of anything at all,

BUT

You can't lane split, you can't lean, performance per MPG isn't all that great, they don't look cool (ok, that one is subjective).

I just don't get it.

It qualifies for the commuter lane since it is registered as an MC. That's at least something. You can't say that for a SmartCar.

I did a demo ride on one of those and while it was a lot of fun to demo, I would never spend the kind of money they want for one of those things unless I had a whole bunch of F U money laying around. You could get a hell of a nice motorcycle for the 16 grand they want for the spyder.

For those for various reason they have that require more than two wheels but don't want to feel caged in it is an option. The one up front and two to the rear is not as stable as the other way around so I have read. They are also an option to over bearing governments and their save the world, planet, me from me laws. A tad smaller than a civic so size might be a concern. Just not my cup of tea at this time.

I test rode one last summer and it was fun, but they sure are expensive! I feel they would make a great ride for a wife or an older person who doesn't want to have to balance when riding slow or stopped.

It has a nice storage compartment up front and I think now you can add saddlebags to them. The Rotex motor sure was nice and smooth with plenty of power, but nowhere near the power of the 1125R.

They have sold several at Kenosha and I met one of the riders who owns one. He also has a HD bagger but loves his new Spyder and ends up riding it most of the time now.

We had a lengthy thread recently about the spyder. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/347324.html

I will quote what I said then:

While I was in Tucson recently, I got a chance to ride a spyder.

It was very strange. I never got used to the fact it doesn't lean.
The owner of it is about to get a new one. His has had 4 recalls, and several break downs. His was one of the first off the line, but still it has a lot design issues. The brakes being the biggest issue (most of the recalls involved the brakes). These issues were important enough for the manufacture to send out someone to pick up the trike. They were TERRIFIED you would ride it with defective parts. This certainly was not a "Next time you bring it in we'll fix it" situation.

My thoughts on my ride.

It only has a foot brake, no hand lever. I would consider this a real safety issue, as you naturally try to grab the lever, and nothing is there.

The front end it really susceptible to road imperfections. It steers very heavy, and any road imperfections pulls the trike one way or another.

Seating position is surprisingly tight. You sit upright on it, but you feet are really tucked up under you, not the most comfortable position if you have long legs.

It has plenty of power, it is not an R1, but it will outrun any 4 wheel vehicle.

Coming from my buell the transmission was quite smooth.

I would say it is a neat toy, but it need a second generation that is less aggressive. It would make a great touring toy after that.
